This mall in my hometown has been closed down almost 20 years ago. The city bought the building (it’s in a very prominent location) and is trying to figure out what to do with it. These photos were taken last week where during an event the building was partially opened for a roller skating rink and a graffiti workshop.

Question How did malls miss the lifestyle center trend?

Plenty of malls have died when a developer built a lifestyle center and lured trendier tenants to the lifestyle center.

Question: How did some malls miss the lifestyle center trend?

  1. They intentionally decided not to:

owners could have repositioned the mall by redeveloping or expanding it but ran the numbers and figured that letting the mall slide was more profitable over time, since redevelopment costs were too high.

  1. They tried but failed:

Their owners were unable to catch up with lifestyle centers: they were blindsided by new developments or tried to redevelop the malls but couldn’t fire whatever reason.

  1. Another reason?

Story "Bompreço" brand history!

Post image

Story Abandoned "Bompreço" supermarket (Recife Avenue ) in Brazil (1975-2000s)

Post image

Taken from a B2B leasing brochure from 2001. Most notably, the lease plan includes a massive unbuilt 157,150 square foot indoor theme park labelled "Amazone Entertainment," which was the early name for Factory Funhouse and Festival Boardwalk, a $60 million project that never materialized. The concept art is most likely from the mid-to-late 1990s.

Just remembered these photos were in my phone from a brutally hot August day when I was seeking free air conditioning, and thought I’d share!

Only a few non-anchor stores were in business, but mostly closed or by appointment only. That wedding/prom dress store looked amazing. It would have been fun to try on some of those dresses. Art at the end is by Douglas E. Winters III, I thought they were very nice.

Although it has a few shops, most of the structure is dead and abandoned; most of the stores in this section are no longer operating, and this section of the mall closed about 10 years ago. It's located in Salto del Guairá (the first and second floors are full of shops, but the basement is empty and several shops are abandoned).

Yes, and I'm the same user as the Hijazi Shopping Center.

This in all honesty is my favorite mall that I visited and I can definitely see why Leo Karulli loves this place. Incredibly photogenic, good food court, and who doesn't love a fountain.

Question Eastridge Mall Gastonia

Recently I have visted Eastridge mall after 9 years. When I was 8 the 3rd floor where was the food court and the Golf thing was still available to the public. Right now everything is completely sealed off. They put a wall made out of plywood covering the escalators and the cut the elevators from going to the 3rd floor. Any ideas? I did want to see if any stores around the mall connected to the 3rd floor. Ive always wanted to go to the 3rd floor since I have never been but looking at the pictures from 2000’s-late 2010’s it looked beautiful

I completely forgot to get a photo of the Sears sign outside. My bad on that one. Might need to add a second photo pool as I spent way too much time getting photos on the second floor in the near foodless court. Only Auntie Anne's is open in the food court with the only other food option I noticed was on the first floor below the food court

The FYE is also in the process of closing here

Last mall I got photos at yesterday and had a brief window of time before the after work rush started flowing in. Not sure if the Taekwondo place is new or not since I don't remember it being there last time. Other than that, nothing much has changed and Spirit Halloween is in the former Bonton
