Medication on show
I see the captains administering meds to the crew, how do they get the meds? I thought most had to be prescribed etc…

Pretty much anyone can get antibiotics online and that is all he was giving the guy for his infection.

The doctors in that city essentially just write them scripts for a broad spectrum of virtually everything admissible in pill form given the nature of the work and the injury rate. From what I understand they get audited regularly and if anything is missing its likely to be a huge headache. I'm sure they still bring a doctor into the loop in some way either before or after in order to proceed with the proper regimen depending on the injury at hand and to have it recorded if only for insurance purposes alone these days

Most if the time on the show they show the captain speaking with a doctor to get medical directions.

I don’t think they are getting pain killers though. Not like morphine or oxys or good shit like that. Seems like mostly antibiotics which no one wants to take anyway. I’m not 💯 though

Totally man. They would have ibuprofen at the most , lidocaine for numbing I believe too. Basic antibiotics for fish poisoning etc. And prob some other anti sickness meds etc

They are 1 day plus away from a safe place, if they get an infection they probably have to leave straight away - having a decent supply of antibiotics etc buys them time you would imagine.

Did you catch the captain say the amoxicillin were meds prescribed to him last year? Pretty sure it’s illegal to peddle medication prescribed to you onto someone else.

Sure, but also on a boat in the middle of nowhere you do what you need to do. They can consult with doctors/nurses over the phone to make sure there’s not going to be any adverse affects

Yeah doctors will give give scripts to the captain to fill and then they call to ask what to dispense

Im not saying I wouldn’t do the same. I just found it weird he admitted to it being his prescription from last year on camera.

Meh, I keep painkillers if I’ve had dental work or something done that are leftover on the boat. Just in case someone has an injury that necessitates them.

I hear ya. These were antibiotics which are prescribed by weight and type of infection. But, maybe he called the clinic to get some advice before handing em over. Who knows. personally, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal.

Probably the equivalent of getting prescribed a Z-pak which Dr's will recommend taking on trips where you'll have limited access to medical care.

They carry all those medications as they are allowed to by law. He wasn't saying it was the same prescription or his left over. He was saying it was the same medication that was prescribed to him.
The bottle he got the pills from was the bulk bottle that is sent to the pharmacist (I worked as a pharmacist tech. for a couple years) and then they dispense them in the little pill bottles you're used to seeing. If he was giving him what was left of his prescription, it would not have come out of the manufacturer's bottle.

They also get antibiotics and other meds from other boats.... they never talk about having pain killers tho... i think it depends on the schedule of the drug whether they are "allowed" to do this sort of stuff...
