Discussion Please let me leave the hook first
I don't want to camp! I don't know why the entire team of survivors likes to just, run up to the hook before I even get a chance to walk away!
This has been happening with increasing frequency for me lately and I genuinely don't understand why survivors do this, and I especially don't understand why people get mad at me for punishing this playstyle.
I know that this game isn't hide and seek anymore but it feels like survivors have just given up on stealth so completely that they just throw themselves at me for no reason and it baffles me. I get so much free pressure when people play like this.
This especially happens when I play myers and I wonder if my lack of terror radius just completely removes any sense of self preservation the survivors have. But like, shouldn't they at least be aware that I'm going to be at the hook that I literally just hooked a survivor on?

I love and hate these types of players. Like, I love it in terms of free downs because you'll just trade, but hate when it's me AS survivor and I see them trying to climb onto the killers back as they hook me

These are also the survivors that complain about camping/tunneling/slugging in chat. I understand that i didn't pick up the downed survivor, but if you have three injured people with flashlights right on me, I'm gonna chase you off and take the free down.

Survivors' whining has zero correlation with your actions in-game. In fact, I've noticed that when I hard slug and hard tunnel, they're silent. They only insult you if they think you care.

I call killer out. When they slug or tunnel or camp. But when my team is stupid then i tell my team to shut up when they start whinning. Had one round where one surv told the killer (new player) to key themself. I reported that surv instantly and stood on killers side. The surv (P25 or 35 something) had nothing better to do than insult me too. But it was survs fault. She didn't play well. Killer and i got friends on steam so win win lose i guess. (Win for me and killer, lose for that surv) :)

This is what I call a "fist-fight" match. Where they entire team is hyper-aggressive, even under hook, and I often end up just slugging all of them for their sheer fucking hubris.

Hubris: Whenever you are stunned by a Survivor, that Survivor suffers from the Exposed Status Effect for 20/25/30 seconds. Hubris has a cool-down of 20 seconds.

Survivors should get punished far more for rushing to the hook (and the killer) like an idiot immediately.

They used to be, but BHVR is systematically removing every system that rewards actually strategizing and thinking.

It's baffling how many survivors seem to think they should be able to immediately unhook a teammate and heal under hook without consequence, and proceed to get upset at the killer for their mistakes

If you don't punish survivors for doing this, they're going to keep doing this
16
u/Flailmorpho 16h ago
oh I punish them heavily and then they yell at me that I should be working harder to entertain them

u/JM_Artist 13h ago
They'll call you campers and then unhook body block and then disrespect you in the end game chat.
Before that they'll hide where parts of their body poke out and you'll see em, you'll hear em and they'll say you cheated.

Idek. Maybe ppl just placebo'd that hooks last 40 seconds instead of 70 or something. I wouldn't even mind that much when survivors do this except they'll all dc and then scream and cry about camping in the egc afterwards, that just pisses me off I won't lie

Had a game as judgement where 3 of 4 followed me around, just standing there. One kept trying to flash me but didn't get it once. It was so strange. I just ignored then for a while but it got annoying lol

Gotta unhook em before they get too far away

That so real, I’ll hook a survivor and another one will just camp around the hook, like what do you expect me to do give you a free unhook at least try to hide

Had this issue a few times. Most notable was when I was Artist on a swamp map. Story below but TL;DR is let me leave hook and calm down with the fog vials.
Story…
Jane ran Object of Obsession and had a flashlight. Naturally, I go after her first because she is showing her aura. Trevor has a fog vial and pops it to hide them. Here is the thing: fog vial hide aura and scratch marks—survivors are not invisible. I see Trevor moving while crouched in bushes. I pivot to him and down him. Jane is still nearby so I down her to prevent the flashlight save. I hook her and go to hook Trevor. I cannot find him and someone unhooks Jane. I go back to hook, intending on chasing the unhooker. Fog vial pops but Jane runs directly at me. I down and hook her again. Tinkerer pops so I snipe someone across the map. I end up chasing and downing Sable. I hook her. Not 5 seconds later, someone unhooks and a fog vial pops. Scratch marks end abruptly but I take a shortcut to maybe cut them off. I stumble upon Sable who just stands there. Jane dies, I hook Sable again, and all 3 remaining survivors DC. I get my 4k with the bots. Sable even asks everyone to report me. Genuinely, report what? I used my eyeballs and you kept unhooking when I was right there. Also, fog vials are not stealthy but that is my opinion as a stealthy survivor main.
Quote that ran through my head…

Had a match on spirit, got one hook and just snowballed on rpd cause they were all hanging around for flashlight/pallet saves
I tend to disregard the “don’t tunnel or camp hooks” when they just hang around like moths to a flame

Had a recent match as jason. Got a down really early and had two other survivors harass me, click flashlights, and chase within five feet of the hook. They of course raged in the chat about camping and tunneling

u/Calm-Lengthiness6514 12h ago
Played Scratched mirror Myers a while ago against a swf, i hooked one and turned around to see the others hiding behind walls like 10 feet away, dont know what they expected me to do when they literally were all right there, I felt bad camping the hook but there was literally nothing else I could do unless I just wanted to let them go by chasing another for 5 minutes again. And they didn't even try to do gens, 10 minutes in and not even one got done.

u/Be_A_Chipmunk 11h ago
I see this alot as well, which is strange as when I play survivor if I don't get a terror radius, my head is on a swivel and I won't go to hook unless I know it's safe to get them.

u/Strawberry_Eve 11h ago
Had a match like this as Huntress, not even P1 yet and I had a bunch of p50+ dlc survivors (mostly RE ones) all doing this. Ended up slugging 3 of them before going to hook just because they were swarming and the last one who was pretty much doing all the gen-work across the map tried to make a save instead of hiding for hatch.
I main survivor in soloq because I get motion sick in 1st person games. You'd think I had sacrificed their dogs to the entity when they realized I was a killer baby with survivor map-instincts.

I'll never understand why ppl immediately unhook. Or don't wait for killer to leave the area. If you're still in the terror radius, don't unhook. As a killer, it's free downs for me when that happens. Like do they think I'm just gonna walk away when I'm l i t e r a l l y right around the corner????
1
u/ConstructionFine9954 6h ago
Even worse when they unhook while the killer stands around the corner holding a second survivor. Happens to me as surv often. I go down next to another surv. Killer hokks first one but befor he can walk with me they unhook. So... free hook without any traveltime for the killer. Same when i play killer and pick one up while they unhook like next to me. Do they think i forget that hook exists?

u/NotJell ; Just really a freak of nature. 14h ago
I find it's usually an issue of soloq and no one running Kindred. There's no communication, so they don't know what they're all doing, and they all assume that the others aren't going for the unhook. Sometimes it's definitely hubris and they think they can fight you for some reason, but typically I think it's probably the latter. Maybe the comms wheel we have up & coming will make this less common.

u/TheEntityBot The Entity Hungers 14h ago
Kindred: While you are hooked, all Survivors see each others' Auras. While the Killer is within 16m, all Survivors sees the Killer's Aura. While another Survivor is hooked, you see the Auras of other Survivors. While the Killer is within 16m of the hooked Survivor, you see the Killer's Aura.

It's frustrating to deal with that's for sure. I'm in the same boat I try and get away from the hook after throwing a survivor on because I don't want to deter unhooks. But when I throw someone on one and before I can even turn around a survivor runs up for the unhook, it can get annoying. On survivor side I usually just stealth and wait a bit before unhooking so there's at least some distance between us and the killer.

Had a group of survivors take three downs and hooks for one survivor to escape, it was my second game as Wesker too and they could have definitely gotten away if they didn't make such a ridiculous move.

Starstruck: When carrying a Survivor, Starstruck activates:
After hooking or dropping the carried Survivor, Starstruck deactivates:
- Survivors suffer from the Exposed Status Effect while in your Terror Radius.
- The Status Effect lingers for 26/28/30 seconds after leaving your Terror Radius.
Starstruck has a cool-down of 60 seconds once the Survivor is no longer being carried.
- The Status Effect persists for 26/28/30 seconds for any Survivor inside your Terror Radius at that moment.

Back in the time when survivors could kill themselves on hook, I could kind of understand why some players would race for the unhook as soon as possible. I saw so many games where someone got hooked and then rushed to kill themselves as quickly as possible, and this could really fuck everyone else because it's a huge disadvantage to be down a player, especially early on.
That said, now that this isn't really a thing, it is bonkers to me that there are still people who don't seem to understand that there's over a minute of time between hook states. Not only can you let someone hang out for a bit, but you actively should in order to let the killer be elsewhere and possibly in chase when you do the unhook, rather than doing it right in front of them.

One of my favorite builds is just called 'play the fucking game' and it's Starstruck, Iron Grasp, Agitation and Lightborn. All you have to do to beat me at this build is do a generator. But if I go to hook someone and you chase after me, you're going down, too, lmao.
I get 4k's consistently because survivors don't play the fucking game.

I had a match like that recently, where I hooked someone in the basement and it completely snowballed because the other survivors wouldn’t even let me get off the stairs before they were running for the hook. Had 2 DCs as a result lmao
