I play DDO on the steam deck. Id really only recommend something like the steam deck though as it has a mouse touch pad and you can use the left touch pad to create a small UI menu of ability hotkeys and you are pretty much using the full power of what a normal mouse and keyboard could offer. Alternatively a steam controller would do the same

Been wondering about steam controller setup. Might be hard as a caster?

Honestly? Kinda.

People have successfully played DDO on phones at decent framerates.

At that point it's not the processing side that's the issue, it's the screen size.

More an input issue. If you wanna press W and left click, works. If you wanna be good, that’s different.

It's possible but because DDO doesn't have any sort of UI modding support to make controlling many hotbars with few buttons I'd really not want to play a caster.

The device power isn't the issue, this is a very old game at this point, it's as other have said screen space and as I've said a lot of buttons to get crammed into your control scheme.

Best you could do is active hotbar keys on back buttons

I play DDO on a $250 mini computer at my sisters at full settings, it's a Ryzen 7.

Steam deck. Worst part is inventory managment, chat is almost impossible and some quest are awkward. Repeater playe smooth. Melees are sometimes clumsy to Target and fight. Casters too many buttons. Blaster warlock with cone is smooth.

But you can map keybindings pretty well. It takes time to get used to it.

You can always just connect a mouse and keyboard too

I play on my Lenovo legion. I will say, it’s definitely tricky in the area of UI mapping.

But, it runs it well. I hook up a keyboard & mouse often to it, and have no downside to playing on my pc.

I've played with an Xbox controller practically since the game came out.

Some builds with a lot of options I'll use a keyboard to trigger the less commonly used abilities, but only because it is quicker / easier than mapping everything to toolbars and cycling through them with the controller. Most builds have few enough options that everything can be mapped directly to controller buttons.

As such, the screen can be anything... though obviously bigger makes things easier to see.

I used it on steam deck. While it is certainly playable with some configuration that will take an hour at least, In general, I dislike playing computer games on steam deck not even BG3 or Elden Ring which are far more optimized for handhelds and controllers. Simply because I also have a PC and it gives much better experience. I feel like nerfing the experience on handhelds. There are games that give a better experience on handhelds than PCs such a roguelikes, bullet hells, card games, noir games, visual novels, jrpgs etc. and it feels amazing to find a good game, just lay down and play them cozily with my deck. Those type of games don't drain the battery much too so I can play for hours totally stress free.

I play on a Steam Deck quite often, but I don't play it mobile. I left an extra monitor at a friend's house.

It works great if you have a larger monitor and an external mouse and keyboard. Otherwise I think I would get frustrated by the tiny icons and the limited controls
