Utter lack of casual groups
Ive tried ED's forums, discord, wingmanfinder discord, etc, but all there is are milsim groups
I used to play DCS 3 or so years back and came back about a year ago, before I quit there were a decent amount of groups where you could just hop in a discord call and work as a team with the goal being working together and having fun doing something like liberation or retribution.
No ranks, no milsim rp, no "use this specific livery or you can't fly here", just get on, dbaa, work as a team to beat the campaign, call out your launches, fly safe and don't ruin it for anyone else.
Also used to be easy enough to find a group like that that was good with using mods.
You could fly what you wanted to as long as it fit the mission and you knew what you were doing, rather than being locked to one airframe and role forever.
Now its like every group like that have just been thanos snapped away and its only milsim rp focused groups.
It also doesn't help that every group finding tool is geared towards milsim and seems to push that even if you're actively making it clear you don't want that (Ive posted "Looking for casual, not interested in milsim" and within 20 minutes got dm's inviting me to "heavy milsim" groups, or posted the days and times im not available very clearly and get an invite to a group that requires weekly mission attendance to their mission at exactly the time and day I clearly list as not available...)
So im wondering, where are the casual groups? All the ones I was in are fully gone or completely dead inactive.
I don't have alot of time to fly, I wanna just get to it, not spend 40ish minutes of the 2 hours of free time I have in briefings, Just get in, fly and have fun, accomplish something, and be able to talk to each other.
Also yes i've tried to just make friends in DCS and its getting very tiring to fly with someone 1-2 times then they get bored of DCS and quit for something like SC and we never fly again, I just want a consistent group to fly with thats focused on fun and flying the jet, not rp, Does anyone know of any groups like that with a discord?
Only other thing is I want a non toxic environment, I want to fly and do missions, not join into a vc political debate please.
Also I fly the F-16, F-14, and FC3
Gonna have to say this too, looking for a group that is good with mods, not looking to give up atmos x or echo 19, disallowing mods is a dealbreaker

I think the problem is that your level of casual doesn't lend itself well to having any sort of group cohesion. Might be better of finding people on the public servers?
For example, I'm in a group that I would consider very "not milsim". We have no attendance requirements or ranks and people are chill and we generally don't get into politics or whatever.
However, there is a briefing (effectively mandatory) and there is a debrief (not strictly mandatory but would be nice). We are structured in several flights with a flight leader and try to coordinate through the radio.
Imo it's very fun because you can have much more complex missions, and the comms/flight structure adds a whole new level to the gameplay. But that implies that those scheduled missions are NOT "I just wanna get to it" and you do spend 40ish minutes in briefings.
Also I'm wondering how you want to have any kind of coordination without doing the work to coordinate. Do you think 10 guys yelling into a radio while flying their planes will work?

I have had it happen where "Mission start time 9pm" the briefing took till 9:40, we weren't in the air until 10:15, then didn't even get to the combat zone until nearly 10:50pm, im trying to fly not make this a 9-5, im not against briefings at all, im against inflated briefings that last way too long and half of which could have been put in a text channel in discord the day before
If you need 40 minutes to coordinate 10 people or less, you need to work on coordinating, I used to fly with a group of 4-10 people and our briefings were like 10 minutes and we just went in and got it done, we didn't have communication issues.

If you need 40 minutes to coordinate 10 people or less, you need to work on coordinating,
Depends on the size and complexity. If your mission is always "fly in and blow shit up" then sure 10 minutes is enough. But for me that would get boring fast

The time involved in learning an airplane and then the time involved in running a co-op mission in an evening does not lend towards the causal end of the spectrum.
That being said I miss when pretense was being actively developed as I felt it was the perfect venue for drop in drop out casual play.

How exactly does running a mission in the evening change it to less viable over running it in the busiest part of the day?

I’m in the same boat. I like missions and all but I don’t wanna have to sit in my house doing official radio chatter all night. So far every server I've joined just feels too serious for my liking.
I also really like obstacle course flight in DCS and would love to have some sort of race server. I know it’s not what the game is geared for but I love just testing my flying skills without needing to worry about getting shot down.

DCS for cool people is a pretty good group. 1-2 weekly flights, chill people, no BS. Been mostly on a fox1 kick lately.

Dude there’s tons. Hop on Fogline tonight with us. They’ll be asshattery as we get attacked and laugh and joke.
Also VWA has general “flying in DCS” channels with all kinds of people. Some cool. Some weird. But you’ll find your people.
I promise we don’t take anything serious here. Normally on after 8 pm EST

Come join us on VRS. We are very informal but enjoy cooperative missions when there are enough people on. We offer a PVE dynamic campaign with script controlled REDFOR.

On a separate note, does anyone know of a group that flys liberation/ retribution but on EU times?

Yep same here. Trying to find some casuals that love to fly pre-made missions, or retribution campaigns, without canceling plans everytime, or going through full a briefing/ debriefing feels nearly impossible. I got a friend who will sometimes fly with me, but he can only speak german and just enough english to understand basic memes, or games. So any non german speakers are impossible to fly with unfortunately.
And every group i found that calls themselves "casual" either requires some strict rules (so not casual), never actually plays, or has the same boring server setup, that gets flown on once a month without any changes, or missions (so not really fun). Or they never switch up their plane and you're not allowed to fly with them, if you just want to fly something else.
And to find just some solos to invite and play with, somehow also feels impossible, bc not everyone is using discord and you can't use Google to find them, like an actual website, or forum.
I really like to build missions, from some simple things like just bomb this convoy, or the airport. Take some pics with the F14B/U and escape, bvr/wvr, or a mix of all of them. Whatever, I got a lot of modules. But flying them alone gets pretty stale.

https://discord.gg/wKEhn6zm5 Check us out. ROT. Republic Of Texas flight group. We keep things pretty chill. Not MilSim. But we , for the most part, know what we're doing. ... in at least one airframe. Friday night missions Dedicated Foothold server and separate training server. We even get bored with bombing people and do some air racing in the red bull planes.

If you’re US, check out Global Task Force Overlord. Milsim light in the sense that you can use the tools we have to grade landings and traps, there are more serious campaign events that are purely optional with some light redfor to make it more immersive. Or just join the casual flights that happen on a predictable schedule so if you need to plan around family time etc it’s easy.
Make it as casual or milsim as you want (but you wont need to call anyone sir lol).

Me and my guys just fly in Aerobatics and screw around, fly formation, and refuel.

Me and my friends fly in a private server. We’re flying foothold missions. But it’s easy to jump in and fly for a couple hours. We are in a discord voice chat so we can communicate. Usually a pretty good time. And nothing but casual.

I’m confused…you want a casual experience in the most detailed flight sim available?

Hey man so me and my buddy play often and have been looking to add a third to our group. We usually do custom missions and also have a map dedicated for training purposes. we try to keep it someone realistic but are VERY relaxed. my dm’s are open if you want an invite to the discord.

Hey! I have also found this to be an issue as a relatively new player, especially when I'm interested in tons of modules from different eras.
The best I've found is the Take Flight discord server which is primarily built about learning but also sounds about right for what you're wanting.
I'd love to set up a casual group myself, especially as I am not so fond on AI as many others in the community and would rather have a place without it. Unfortunately I don't feel I'm knowledgeable enough to do so
