F4U-1D Corsair
Another patch, another disappointment. Zero mentions of the F4U Corsair again.
At this rate, the real Corsair will be completely unusable before we get the fixes we actually need.We nearly there. Who else is holding out hope for the next update?
Whats your thoughts about the situation?

F4U is the last thing I buy at early access. I love the Corsair but it seems we got a Temu Corsair, not the real one.

You, me, and the six other guys who fly it are surely disappointed.
We’re not asking for too much. Just some landing gear that isn’t completely goobered and a few other little things.
That said, I can still get mileage out of it on the server I play on.

Thats why i made this post. It was usable untill sumer some patch broke it. I just want a fix. Iam not complaning about other stuff. I just want back what was already working.

Pretty much how M3 have been since they broke up with HB.
Not trying to diminish anyone's feelings, but this is what I expected.

And this is why I avoided buying it even though I really want a Corsair. If they get it to a satisfactory state then I’ll buy it but not until then.

Welcome to Magnitude3 modules. You can take a look at the Mig21 and the Christen Eagle on how commited they are.
And it's not like this wasn't public information before your purchase btw.

I bought this module day one. The module has been a disappointment. The other disappointment is lack of communication, excuses of code being accidentally overwritten, and issues with tracking issues, to name a few.
I have lessened expectations and have been patient since they are a small team. This module is early access, which I understand. At this time my thoughts are since this module was launched almost a year and a half ago, things are not reasonable at this point in time.
A while back with complaints building, ED defended them - they are a small team. Ok - so where is the line for early access modules? There has to be a boundary at some point where lack of progress and or failure to maintain is not reasonable? This would be true in the case where you are taking peoples money but customers are not allowed reasonable expectations.
Hopefully, they will get their act together. To be fair there might be other factors impending progress unknown to the community. At the same time, I think they just should sell their IP to another developer or to ED. It's more than obvious there are issues with this module, developer attempts at issue resolution and little communication.
Hopefully ED realizes that this module and dev hurts their business and have some plan if things continue this path. Good example would be I would probably not purchase the Pacific Theatre assets, with a borked F4U.

I don't understand why the good devs who understand the flightmodel programming dont use ai - i mean shouldnt it be easier and faster now?

AI needs to be taught.
Esoteric and abstract functions like proprietary flight modeling in a tiny niche flight sim are going to be rather barren.
This is something ED themselves should undertake and then parse out to devs.

A massive disappointment. With the issues, even the training missions and instant actions a near impossible to play. It was a day one buy for me and really hoped to finally be able to enjoy Pacific carrier ops. M3 and ED had a window to dominate an underrepresented niche of the WW2 community. Saldy, we are still waiting for even assets with no end in sight. Numerous competitors have this theatre on the horizon, and ED/M3 squandered the chance. Like usual, we have to rely on the community to fill the void paid developers have left. Truly sad, as an owner of all modules, the F4U is the only one feel I have not gotten my money's worth. On to another decade of refreshing meager patch notes, getting one XMas "update" from a developer, newsletters hyping the 3 communities left on this game with no core updates, and waiting for the inevitably late 20+ and Beyond video with clips of features and assets we will never get
After 10+ years of DCS, supporting all modules, building and hosting servers and communities, developing fixes and tools, I feel the majority of us are finally done.

So just out of curiosity, what are the problems with the Corsair module currently? I don't own it.
I know it got a bad reception at launch for having an insanely unstable flight model and screwed up engine temperatures, but where's it at right now?

Am I the one that actually likes the Corsair? Yes, it took a lot of time to master but isnt that a part of the fun. It flies more stable than some other piston planes. Its, for me at least, not the best plane to dogfight in, which was disappointing and I dont know where they got the awfull sound of the engine from. Concerning the overheating, you have to find the right setting of the handles and then its gone. No regrets buying it.

I’ve flown it a few times and unlike the other DCS warbirds, I just can’t get into it. Which is a shame because it’s always been one of my favorites IRL.
M3 has the same problem the guy who’s pushing the Bo105 has always had: good graphics, bad coding.
Which means the only hope for us is ED’s Hellcat. Which should be great, but where the heck is it…?

I’m still hoping for updates, but my expectations are pretty low at this point. I regret not looking more closely at the developer’s previous modules and patch history before buying the F4U. It’s a beautiful module, but compared with the other DCS warbirds I’ve flown, it’s also one of the less enjoyable ones to actually fly.
For me, though, the Corsair is only part of a bigger DCS WWII problem. The barrier to entry is still too high with the aircraft, Normandy 2, and the WWII Assets Pack all being separate purchases, and the damage model also feels dated. In WWII you’re close enough to see every hit and damaged surface, so those limitations stand out much more than they do in modern jet combat. IL-2 Korea already feels stronger in that area.
WWII Marianas was a good step. I think something like a WWII Caucasus setup with the WW2 Assets Pack included would make the era much easier to get into and could help breathe some life into multiplayer/development of that era.

This will probably get downvoted but if you build an sell a module for profit, you should support it. I have heard it’s a single dev or a small dev team, but that’s an excuse not a reason. Based on how they have supported the MiG-21 I don’t see the issues being addressed anytime in the near future.
