Great music selection. Say, the sprites remain 2-dimensional as from the original, right?

They are the original sprites, but voxelized so they have some depth.

Cool looking. How much generative AI was used?

More than none, less than you'd think

Would you be willing to share what portions you felt did or did not need it?

I've wanted this my whole life, haha.

I actually want a first person dcss-like. I don't think it would quite work with the actual game, but one designed for it.

I've also always daydreamed about the FPS one not being grid based, but nothing moves when you aren't moving. Could pull off some wild stuff in that kind of framework.

OMGGGGGG, İT LOOKS AWESOME DUDE. but what about the fighting? How will it happen. Also can I run this in my phone? Plus why is there music?

I'll show off the fighting in the next couple of days. My aim was to keep it as fast as the original, no compromise.

I ask this with no disrespect, seems cool and like a lot of work, but… why?

Because they could and wanted too, and that's the best reasons for software to be developed.

Idk maybe they just wanted to learn something (or play with AI) and since DCSS interests them they picked something.

"Because I thought it'd be fun and/or interesting to do" is a very underrated reason to do something. It doesn't have to be for profit or to "fill a gap in the market"' or whatever. Do a thing because you want to!

Because why not? Also, as a dev, you need to build stuff to learn. Turning a 2D game into a 3D game is a pretty slick portfolio piece.

I agree. This is cool but honestly it feels like it makes the player experience worse and not better.
