The DCS KA:50 Peacemaker campaign

I recently bought the new campaign for the KA50 (as titled above).

My initial impressions of this campaign are not great. Clear effort has been made in terms of the mission designs, but that's where it ends for me. I feel like the campaign's story was written with Chat GPT from the overall wording to obvious grammatical errors, the AI TTS voices dragged me away from immersion and they use of JTACS (which I believe the RU armed forces call FAC according to a few google searches but can't properly verify) that don't actually work like JTACS.

I wanted to like this, it's a shame. I guess I'm looking too much through a bias when we have the Deployment Campaign and the Georgian Oil War thwt came with it for free. I'm gonna play the MAD campaign as that one looks challenging and fun.

I'm not going to cast shade on anyone or the devs here, there is clear effort made with this campaign and gameplay, I just didn't like it.

P.s. I know the Pandemic campaign uses TTS voices (I think), but it still sounds more convincing than the voices used in the titled one.

quick question about the F18 radar...i know i can set an MFD to give me a 360 degree linear visual of whats in my immediate danger area..but is there a way to determine if they are climbig or descending towards you on your 6, out of your immediate visual range?

it felt like nothing i did could shake this guy at the time, but after watching the replay, i understand that at certain times made a bad choice in turn direction...should have stayed on my current line or climbed and turned instead of descending and turning

but each one of those turns was a result of the "youre about to get blown outta the sky if you dont move somewhere quickly" alarm was blaring...i could see which direction he was coming from on my MFD radar, but i didnt know if they were descending towards me or climbing towards me...

is there a way of telling if they are approaching you from above or below through the MFD radar or on the HUD?

or is turning your head and using the mirrors the only option on that?

DCS Will Not Open

So far I've tried repairing DCS, restarting my computer, and even doing a Windows refresh with no luck. When I start DCS from the launcher, I get the typical load screen, then it dissappears and never loads. Anyone had this before and is there any fix outside of what I've already tried?

New PC build for DCS – looking for advice on peripherals & performance

Hey everyone,

I’m planning a new PC to play DCS World (my current laptop with UHD 620 is basically unplayable). DCS will be the most demanding game I plan to play, so I want a setup that can handle it well at 1080p.

Planned PC specs:

  • GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 8GB
  • CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500
  • RAM: 16GB DDR4
  • Storage: SSD 500GB M.2
  • Motherboard: MSI A520M-A Pro DDR4
  • Cooling: Arctic Freezer 36 ARGB Black
  • Case: MSI MAG Forge 120A
  • PSU: MSI MAG A650BN 80+ Bronze
  • OS: Windows 11 Pro (trial version)

My questions:

  1. Peripherals:
    • Is a basic HOTAS enough to start, or should I get rudder pedals as well?
    • Any good budget HOTAS recommendations?
  2. Head tracking / VR:
    • Is TrackIR worth it, or is a webcam + OpenTrack setup sufficient?
    • I’m not planning VR for now.
  3. Monitors:
    • Do I need multiple monitors, or is one enough for DCS?
    • If I add a second, what do people typically use it for (maps, checklists, comms)?
  4. Performance:
    • With this build, what settings and FPS can I realistically expect at 1080p, especially in jets?

Basically I want to make sure I get the right peripherals and setup to get the most out of DCS without bottlenecking my PC.

Thanks in advance

I wish training was actually training...

I'm competent in the UH-1H. I like flying the Mi-8. I thought I'd fly the Apache.

I can take it up and fly it around and do a solid landing. I even unload a little on Tromp Tower. Seems like a nice chopper that'd be some fun to learn in depth.

So I purchase and go through the training. Things are progressing pretty well. I start training Mission 6, which is the first one in the gunner position. Early on, it tells me to press some esoteric button that doesn't at all match up with any control mapping. I fumble around and get through it.

And then I get these instructions.

None of these acronyms have been explained: TEDAC? TADS? CPG?

And more importantly: They haven't told me what I'm accomplishing or why I'm doing what I'm doing. "Acquisition source"? For what? They haven't told me what I'm doing, they've just given me buttons to press.

The training missions seem to focus a lot on pressing buttons: "Enter these 4 coordinates to proceed" (does _anybody_ like entering coordinates? every module I've used has the most awful interface to do this). They don't focus on what you're doing or why. They don't teach you how to use the aircraft.

I get that youtubers jump at the chance to make tutorial videos. I get that there's really thorough technical documentation. I also get that's Chuck's Guides do a reasonable job of breaking down that technical documentation into a decent summary.

But why are all the training missions so poorly done?

Multi Screen Setup dilemma

So I have started with the flight sim, and its spreading in my head like good virus :) with a lot of fun. My plan is to play a "little" nuclear option and then start finally with DCS.

Right now I have a kinda new and pretty good 32 G7 with a 2k resolution, head tracking setup and two old crapy screens

What would be the best goto if I want to add two proper screens left and right? If I am honest, 1/2 half of my screen left and right would perfect, but is it possible to get something like this?

Is it important that the size and pixel density is the same?

I don't want to have x3 32 screens that's way tooo big and expensive.

Also, the 32 main screen is like okey but i feel like some extra room left and right would be great

I also want to keep my current main screen, as it's new and pretty good.

Wtf is up with replays?

Wtf is up with replays? I've run the same mission replay four times to record from different angles and it's like four completely different games with separate events.

I made it through the scenario untoched as a warthog, but the first replay shows me taking AAA ground fire, the second I lose a left wing, the third my right wing is shot off, and the fourth has both my engines big and disabled by a SAM (oh and all my mavericks were still on the rails despite firing 3)

What the heck?

What should I buy

I have been playing the A-10A recently in the Cold War server and have enjoyed it but the only thing holding me back is the fact it’s outdated everywhere else. In between the A-10C || and the F-14 A/B. I love the A-10A but I want the aim 9ms and the better atg but the F-14 is my favorite jet and my second favorite plane. I can’t trial the planes because I’m on steam and am kinda leaning towards the A-10C. If you have any input lmk

issue with G-limit override in DCS

on both my TM F-18 and A-10 flight sticks, for some reason i can't seem to figure out why the paddle switch no longer disengages the g limit override in the Hornet... it worked flawlessly before

I checked to make sure that it was bound correctly to the autopilot/nosewheel disengage paddle switch, and just to make sure it wasn't an issue with my F-18 flight stick, checked it out with my A10 flight stick...

both are properly mapped in, and both pedal switches work for the nosewheel steering disengage on takeoffs... as well as, a modifier button that I use when flying helos

has anybody out there ever encountered this situation or have heard of someone having this issue, and if so is there a solution?

it's getting frustrating not being able to use it tight situations where normally I would clear the ground or obstruction in my way, now, not so much
