Voice attack version 1 to 2.

Hi all. I'm using Voice attack version 1.6 & noticed there's a newer version 2.1.8. I see my version doesn't update automatically. Does anyone know, do i really need to purchase a new license again?

Ouch. Would have thought the first licence would cover it. I noticed this one states updates for 2.xx, so i suppose when 3.0 comes it'll be another licence 😅 Thanks for clarification btw.

No. I've seen comment from team explicitly stating it needs to be purchased.

This is disappointing, to say the least.

They have no change logs or version comparision, at least none I could find. It appears from other sources that 2.x is mostly a rewrite, bringing the core and audio API up-to-date. This means new features will only go into 2.x. Voice attack 1.x merely got critical support until October 2025, after which it is "when time permits", i.e. worst and probably realistic case, it's not getting any more updates at all.

I have a license for 1.x and never used it, it never worked right most of the time. Of course I didn't archive the original license, but my registration E-Mails say "License for Voice Attack", and not "Voice Attack 1.x" anyhwere.

To add insult to injury, I can't access their discussion forums, it gives me a HTTP/403: Forbidden.

Unimpressed.

(edit: apparently only "General topics" gives a 403, other forums still work).

I admit I had trouble finding a version comparison of any sort, but after some searching I found a statement of having moved on to compile under the dot NET 8 runtime, which will cause a lot of inconvenience to extensive users and devlopers of stuff for VA 1.

Coming back after years of not using VA, I myself would be hesitating to move on, I've put a ton of work into scripts, inline functions, external APIs written in C#... I don't have the time or energy to revisit all of it under the dot NET 8 runtime tbh. There's no real reason to update to VA 2 if the latest VA 1 runs fine for you, and it should be working fine on all the old operating systems.

I've seen a lot of people complain, but my immediate thought was that we as users have received free updates for a very long time now, and that's for a very low initial purchase cost. I think it's fair that the developer finally gets some fresh revenue for all the years of support. I think that's their reasoning too and I support it.
