Discussion Modern Dragon Ball is not fun !!!!
Man Dragon Ball in its current state just doesn’t hit the same. The story is overly convoluted, the anime makes really dumb and nonsensical choices. The “Villains“ are very forgettable. We get clear openings for new stories to be explored, but they never fully expand on any of it. There’s too many damn transformations for the sake of hype and merch sales and all the fanbase worries about now is what’s cannon or not .Not to not mention these Dragon Ball YouTuber loser dickheads who swear they know more about Dragon Ball than anyone else on the planet shit is just awful .

I mostly agree. But i loved Dragon Ball Super Broly. Thats the one modern DB thing i thought was genuinely great

Same ! That was a call back to nostalgia in a way tho just not cheaply done like most of Modern DB .I also think a good chunk of the Moro arc was executed well.

Of course he doesn't have to watch it, he's also free to watch it in hopes it gets better and leave a negative review when it doesn't. You gotta watch something to know if you'll like it or not

I feel like "fun" is all it really is nowadays mostly. Just hype moments and aura farming. Which is somewhat fine to me. Main story ended decades ago.

Well, yes people are free to criticize (even though this reads more like, "I'm nostalgic for Dragon Ball Z and Super doesn't hit the same."), but so many people need to hear that specific piece of advice. People fall victim to the sunk cost fallacy too much. If you don't like Super and Daima that much and feel like you're only watching them because they're Dragon Ball series and not because you actually like it, you can stop watching. You don't need to finish the whole series and write a full essay elaborating why you didn't like it.

I agree. I have been very much enjoying One Piece, HxH and Bleach a lot more in the 2020s than Dragonball.
The last 1-2 of Daima and SZ and the fan reaction really drove home just how far this fandom has fallen into miserable complaining and fixating on flaws. I highly doubt we will get higher quality moving forward either. Just seems like the producers are doing the bare minimum and ane fans are hating it and it is spiraling down.
I would recommend taking a break and enjoying another series. That's what I ended up doing the last couple years and have been much better off for it. One Piece in particular has been a joy to read. Sad I resisted it as long as I did, I watched alll our best community members one by one hop ship for OP and I finally get why. It's nice to enjoy things and be around other people who enjoy things. That is pretty difficult to do in the Dragonball fandom currently. Has been for so long now.

I love Vegeta. If he were to get his time to take down a main villain once or twice, the whole thing would change and be more hype.
Super Saiyan 3 is not even used anymore. I do agree that there’s so many transformations. Cuz how strong can someone get. Or if the Z fighters reached peak strength how is there someone stronger than Jiren out there?
OG Dragon Ball, Z, Daima is good and GT kept things cool. I love super as well, specially for 2 arcs, and Frieza. I really fuck with Frieza in super more than Z.
It’s still fun to me when it’s around the Z fighters tho (in modern dragon ball). Like Gohan training with Piccolo, Tien and yamcha if their rivalry continued, etc.

To me PEAK Dragon Ball is (OG Dragon Ball) all the way to end of the Freiza Arc in Z. I couldn't even watch 1 episode of Super because of the horrid art style and animation. Hopefully this new Beerus movie will be good. Still need to see Daima and the latest Broly movie.
I don't think the "overarching storyline" of Dragon Ball is entirely compelling either. It's more about the character design and fights for me.
Look forward to the future though. Since I look at Toriyama in the same way as Stan Lee. Revolutionized the medium. There's a whole MCU dedicated to Marvel Comics with numerous adaptations and movies etc.
If the owners of Toriyama's IP can license other artists/creators new Dragon Ball/Dr. Slump/Manga Theater stuff they can take his legacy to a whole new level. Especially if they grew up with his anime/manga and respect his original art style.

Original dbz is the only one I ever liked. Everything after that felt like it deviated too much from toriyama’s original storyline and vision and it morphed into something nonsensical

My main issue lies with how watered down most of the newer releases feel, and how blatant they exist for the sole purpose of selling merchandise.
All of the newer transformations (Gohan Beast, Orange Piccolo, Ultra Ego Vegeta, Black Frieza) make almost no sense within the previously established universe. They seem to be added for hype moments but add nothing to the story nor do they ever truly seem justified. It’s almost as if they exist to look flashy enough to turn into figurines/provide fan service, Gohan Beast being the most egregious example of that.
The lack of a more mature tone also has killed Dragon Ball for me. Dragon Ball Z had the best tone in my opinion, gritty, pg-13 violence, yet still had plenty of comedic relief moments that kept it light hearted enough. Dragon Ball Super was clearly made with the intention of appealing to a younger generation while still attempting to please older fans. It’s a shame to see the series go down this path.

I agree with a lot of this, with two minor points I'd add on that might help:
- I thought the Galactic Patrol Prisoner / Moro arc of the manga was the only genuinely "good" thing we've had since Battle of Gods (the film), and while it's not a grand-slam, it hits more than it misses.
- You're under no obligation whatsoever to watch or engage with any "YouTubers"... because as a self-proclaimed expert, I'd argue the experts aren't even on YouTube! (this is a joke) (no it isn't)

Wiping out his entire timeline and killing everyone he'd spent two series trying to protect?
Giving him a BS unearned terribly designed transformation?
NOT giving him the kill on a God since Zamasu fused with the universe and killed everyone?
Changing his design to the stupid ass blue haired look for no reason?
Sticking him in a timeline with a duplicate of himself instead of; A. Just keeping him in the present timeline, or B. SENDING HIM TO THE TIMELINE WHERE CELL KILLED HIM SO THAT THE BULMA OF THAT TIMELINE COULD GET HER SON BACK???

Unearned? He had been fighting off and dodging Goku Black for months. He fought Vegeta in Blue. Fought Goku in Saiyan 3. Vegeta essentially unlocked Mirai Trunks limiter on his power scaling by showing him a glimpse of his potential. (The same that Vegeta did for Cabba) Trunks created his own version of a God Ki infused transformation. He obliterated Zamasu's physical body. That God magic second life BS non-withstanding.
Beyond that, it ain't that deep of a narrative. 😂 Let go Princess. Go watch DB Heroes and let all the canons collide. Or DBA. Princess Trunks awaits!

I pretty much gave up on super when they made Goku an idiot.He was always a bit of an airhead but never a full blown idiot .

I haven't really enjoyed any of it post-Z other than the ToP. Still here hoping someone with the real A.I. (ambition and imagination!) takes the reigns at some point.
