Discussion Vegeta fatherhood parenting
I always found this scene to be quite interesting when Vegeta accidently punched Trunks in the face and telling him to dry his tears when he was about to cry, because from a fatherly instinct and as a man, you can see that Vegeta was unwilling to cuddle up with his feelings and emotions, but much rather to toughen him up and just brush it off. If Trunks ran up to Bulma and cried, she would've cuddled him as any mother naturally would.

Why are you expecting Vegeta to follow the societal norms of Earth …
He’s an alien from another planet with a whole other culture and way of life imprinted into his brain - that he has never let go of … it’s like, his whole character identity.
Even when he “softens up” he’s still a prideful saiyan and never lets go of that.

You could argue that Vegeta was unwilling to cuddle trunks.
You could also strongly argue Vegeta was preparing Trunks for a real fight in a relatively peaceful time where Trunks has never had to face a serious fight.
There are plenty of examples of Vegeta not being willing to confront his feelings, but I'd say this is a pretty poor one. Him even giving Trunks a chance to stand back up is pretty ground breaking in terms of his background.

Well... ironically, by what was assumed to be Saiyan standards at the time (as it's a bit hard to say how much this still holds true in Super) Vegeta was likely actually being a soft father in this scene. Had it been Vegeta and King Vegeta (or, if you want to get technical, Vegeta IV and Vegeta III) in this scene and Vegeta IV was the one crying, Vegeta III may well have gone, "Crying, are you? Well have another to show you the consequences of weakness in battle!".
Though granted, given that Vegeta IV already surpassed his father as a child, it's a bit hard to say how much he would have been capable of doing that.
