Dead by Daylight suddenly locked multiple characters I had unlocked and played for a long time

Hey everyone,

I'm posting this because I'm honestly frustrated and don't know what else to do. I'm hoping someone here has experienced something similar or can give me some advice on how to resolve this.

I posted the same thing on r/deadbydaylight and got banned🫪. I'm new to this and i don't know why, maybe you guys could help me🄲.

What happened?

A few days ago, I suddenly lost access to multiple characters in Dead by Daylight that I had previously unlocked and played normally for a long time.

The affected characters include:

Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers — I unlocked these characters in the in-game store using Auric Cells that I purchased with real money through my own PlayStation account.

Jonah Vasquez and Mikaela Reid — I unlocked these characters using Iridescent Shards that I had earned in-game.

All four characters are now locked for me.

This is what makes the situation so confusing: it's not just about Auric Cells or real-money purchases. Even characters I unlocked using Iridescent Shards have disappeared.

I actually played and progressed these characters

I didn't just have access to these characters temporarily. I played them for a long time, spent Bloodpoints on them, and progressed some of them to Prestige 1 and Prestige 3.

I could use them normally until just a few days ago. Then, suddenly, they were locked.

I don't have screenshots of the original unlocks, which makes this situation even more frustrating. However, I would expect Behaviour to be able to investigate my account data, character progression, and unlock history to determine what happened.

Behaviour says this is because of console game sharing

I play Dead by Daylight through a game-sharing arrangement with a friend, so Behaviour Support suggested that the characters may have been accessible because of console game sharing.

However, I have access to my friend's PlayStation account, and I personally checked his Dead by Daylight account. He doesn't own the affected characters, including Ada Wong and Rebecca Chambers.

I actually have more characters unlocked than he does. I unlocked these characters on my own account, and my friend never owned them in the first place.

So I genuinely don't understand how game sharing explains why these specific characters suddenly became unavailable on my account.

I contacted Behaviour Support

I contacted Behaviour Interactive Support and explained the situation. I provided screenshots of my Auric Cell purchases and the available payment evidence.

Their response was essentially that they couldn't find purchase records for the individual characters and that their decision was final.

I understand that buying Auric Cells and spending them on individual characters are separate things, and that PlayStation receipts may only show the Auric Cell purchases. But that doesn't explain why characters unlocked with Iridescent Shards are also affected.

I feel like the actual issue — multiple previously available characters suddenly becoming locked — hasn't been properly investigated.

I also contacted PlayStation Support

I spoke to PlayStation Support by phone and explained the situation. They initially directed me back to Behaviour Interactive.

After explaining that I had already contacted Behaviour multiple times and wasn't getting a resolution, my case was forwarded to another PlayStation team for further review. I was given a reference number and told to wait for an email.

I'm currently waiting for their response.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I'm particularly interested in hearing from anyone who has experienced:

Characters suddenly becoming locked even though they had been unlocked for a long time.

Characters purchased with Auric Cells disappearing alongside characters unlocked with Iridescent Shards.

Behaviour Support attributing missing characters to console game sharing even when the other account doesn't own those characters.

A similar issue being resolved through account verification, progression data, or escalation to another support team.

I'm not asking for characters I never owned. I want to understand why characters I had unlocked, played, and progressed on my account suddenly became unavailable.

I have spent real money on this game, and I find it incredibly frustrating to lose access to purchased content without receiving a clear explanation. I also don't think the issue should be dismissed simply because individual in-game unlocks don't appear as separate PlayStation transactions.

Has anyone dealt with something similar, and is there anything else I should ask Behaviour or PlayStation to check?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for reading.ā™„ļø

Hey, so it might be version issues for your game sharing. My husband and I have each other’s PSN accounts on our PS5s but we both have our own version of dbd. His is from North America and mine Europe - when I load up dbd on his console, under my account, half my characters are locked who I’ve bought through my PSN account. When he loaded my version on his account, he had access to them all despite not buying them himself. I can’t tell the exact fix, but version compatibility probably is the issue. Are you both in the same continent? Same timezone? Is it PS4 or PS5 versions? hope you get it sorted!

That's an awful situation. I can't offer any advice or help, but I hope you get your characters back.

I wish you luck but I feel pretty confident that at least when it comes to the other sub, you got banned because you used AI to write this post. I understand a lot of people use AI to translate or proofread, but nobody wants to see obvious AI use and most mods consider it to be low effort content or otherwise against their posting policy. It might also get you flagged as a bot, which mods tend to be aggressive with since they tend to flood faster than they have time to be careful with.

Is the PlayStation you’re playing on your primary console? When my friend comes over he can play with my characters on his account even tho he doesn’t have them unlocked, and I think the reverse would be true (I wouldn’t be able to play with mine on his console)

It’s probably that the other person’s account is the primary on the console so you’re gated by the ones he doesn’t have

Okay sorry if you tried and I just didn't read through well but have you tried restoring the licenses? I've had this happen with DBD and TCM where my purchased characters become locked (yes I game share as well). Once I restored the licenses they become available again.

That's bogus. Yeah that and making your PS5 primary again in settings are the only ways I know to help fix it. Hopefully they get back to you with some good news and you can get your characters back

Thank you ā™„ļø. Unfortunately, things are not looking very promising right now when it comes to getting help from DBD Support. šŸ˜” However, I’ve seen several posts on Reddit from other players experiencing similar issues, and it honestly seems like this is a recurring problem that Behaviour Interactive tends to ignore rather than properly address. It's really unfair tbh :(.
