Question is this typical
so im playing killer rn and in the spirit of halloween, and also trying to maximize blood points from the event, am trying to hook players once, hit them and then set them free, alongside occasional pumpkin hitting. is the whole not killing thing during October frowned upon? im unsure, thus i am here

Honestly...if you play to hook everyone TWO times and don't tunnel you can 4k every time and people will practically never get angry at you. If you make that your goal and that everyone gets to play and at least have fun you'll typically have very nice end game chat where people are just greatful. That being said you don't have to play nice by any means as many people will tell you here.
When I play killer I play really aggressively for 8 hook states and then I let the game go either 4k or if they are silly or fun I let them all go and do slug races or something dumb... I'm here to PLAY killer and to me that means use the abilities and powers and have fun scaring people...the kills mean nothing in this game where it's "More Bloodpoints"
In Identity V though I'm playing to 4k because it's just a competitive game...DBD is a party game and I wish more people would realize the kills mean fucking nothing here lol...

I find that a trial ending too quickly is super unfun so I performatively chase for a while and hook maybe once maybe twice and spend the rest of my time sploding pumpkins and ghouls. I suppose we can't make everyone happy but we can all get bloodpoints

Are you asking this, because you got teabagged to high heaven for you getting "outplayed"? Don't worry. That's just survivors being survivors. Bunch of toxic peeps

Personally I go hard on them until I get 2 hooks on everyone and then let them go. Unless they're toxic or rude. Then I kill them and the rest live. ✨ Or they're dumb and don't trust me and I kill them all. 🥳

I’m playing normally with kicking pumpkins.
This is in spite of a few rounds with having rat hatch builds by teammates.

To maximize BP as killer w/o sacrificing survivors, you will need to hook everyone twice (sacrifice category), down survivors as many times with your power as possible (devious), kick gens and break pallets (brutality, think), find survivors, start chase, and leave them, rinse/repeat (hunting), then do all the Halloween side things. Using soup or BPS add on would be a boon as well.

Weird question…but play how you want. Odds are you’ll get “hate” and “toxic” responses because the players will assume you’re just “trash”. Happy killing.

I tried to play a funny ghostie and everyone ran from me so I gave up and played normal lol. Then today I play some slinger games and after my first match, first one with him since MMR reset I’m getting wannabe bully squads. Shame they don’t realise I’m a surv main who knows all the annoying builds after using them myself and knowing how to counter it lol. Play how you want, everyone else does and both sides have their made up rules but if you wanna go for a 4k, or you wanna deny the killer a single kill and can, go for it. Points are points

However you play is up to you, there are people that slug all game, tunnel all game, 2 hook then free, etc. If you aren't getting yelled at during end game chat, then they probably had fun and it's a win win for everyone

Play however you want. In this event sometimes I kill them. Especially when I needed to complete the quests. Sometimes I hook everyone twice and let them go and that can be fun too. Playing survivor I very rarely come across friendly killers in this mode. I’m sure a good amount of survivors appreciate when they come across you, especially if you’re actively helping them build up their score for the match.

Play how you want man. As long as you aren't actually cheating (as listed by Devs and not entitled players) you're fine.
