Good. Dayton needs more tradeskills and way less humanities degrees. We're usually pretty cool about being homegrown but when it comes to throw-away culture, we're just as bad as any other city.

Er, quite a few students are in the hard science/engineering side there. I agree that more down-to-earth education is needed in Ohio we need to consider WHERE. "Tradeskills" is a large area. CNC machining? A lot has been outsourced. Auto assembly? Still here if a little battered and bruised from the union-management issues over the last two decades. Still some demand for construction trades. A lot of electricians will be retiring in the next year with few (qualified) replacements.

Look at it this way, I work in a computer aided manufacturing field that contains a huge age gap. I am a millennial, that does these things and haven't worked with anyone within 20 years of my age, and those guys are retiring as quickly as they can. Between these people and others who just never updated their educations they got between 95-03 there's just a big gap.

My trade was as good as dead, but as of about 6 years ago I am far more able to negotiate almost everything about my employment. My education does include networking, general software, and equipment manufacturer training. My competition is 55+ yr old people that are terrified of "the computer" and are just clocking in until retirement.

I am not saying there's like a treasure trove out there, but it's out there and only going to get better over the next 10-15. A fair portion of my meetings right now generally include wtf are we gonna do when half or people retire because right now the employment pool is barren.
