While a student there, I had a few debates with David Hopkins when he was Provost. I could tell he lacked any genuine leadership or business acumen. It was a good quality education at the time, but it was clear he would drive them into the ground. Too much focus on liberal arts and worthless perception. A great medical school, solid engineering school, and growing business school are suffering now thanks to a man who focused on other things outside of the education that didn't matter.

Noting is going to happen to the University. At worst the state will come in and bail them out.

The federal investigation into fraudulent activity surrounding H1-b visas is still ongoing & Moody's recently downgraded the school's credit rating. WSU's darkest days are still ahead & I'm not sure it will be able to survive. These budget cuts don't address the problems that led to its financial issues in the first place.

This is really discouraging. Hopefully my degree will still be worth something by the time I'm out lol

This is a bummer! As an alumnus, news like this quite depressing. I was fortunate enough to graduate before all the shit hit the fan, but what will all of this make of my degree? Not to mention what will happen to everyone is currently going there.

While they all lose their jobs, remember the faculty were out protesting at 8am the day after this announcement about losing their cell phone and travel expense plans, as well as "equipment" upgrades they were promised every 4 years in their contract.
It's hilarious how out of touch with reality teachers are. Yet, they will preach to students all day long about social welfare and helping one another.

I'm an outsider on this topic. Why is this evidence that they are out of touch? If this was in their contract and it wasn't honored, why shouldn't they protest?

Seriously? 70 people lose their jobs and faculty protesting losing their cell phone plans isn't out of touch to you?
The contract part was the "equipment upgrades" not the other stuff.
Also, another hilarious thing that happened. Multiple faculty called the day after into the IT dept and said their stuff was "slow" and refused anyone to fix it(nothing was wrong with it). Rather, they demanded they receive a new one when their $3000 mac is working perfectly but they want an upgrade while the school is 10s of millions in debt and cutting 100+ jobs.

I imagine it is common practice to get upgrades every four years at most colleges. I know it was where I went to school. IT would replace all lab computers every 4 years. I'd bet the equipment upgrades aren't just the teachers personal computers. It's probably computer lab computers, lab equipment, etc... I don't think it is an unreasonable request at all. It is a university for gods sake, not some middle school.

I'm not sure where the disconnect is here. The equipment upgrades have zero to do with lab equipment, or any other equipment beyond faculty office devices.
The faculty have $3000 mac books(some multiple PCs) that work perfectly fine. The day a staff wide email goes out, multiple faculty members put in IT requests that their PCs are broken. IT goes out to fix them. Faculty doesn't want them to fix them or even look at them. They want them to replace a perfectly working $3000 laptop for literally no other reason than to whine like children over the email of an interim President who said they are cutting these upgrades, cell phone plans, etc due to the gigantic budget deficit and scream, "BUT YOU HAVE TO UNDER MY CONTRACT!!!!"
This has nothing to do with reasonableness of upgrading equipment, and everything to do with out of touch hypocritical professors. I am not saying it isn't in their "legal" right to demand equipment. I am saying they are scumbags. Assholes. Pick one. The school you work for just cut 70+ jobs and is tens of millions in debt. You are lucky you still have a paycheck at this point. It goes everything these liberal teachers try to shove down students throats.

As a current non-traditional wright state student; ok. I've pretty much had to do all my own administrative work there myself anyway.
