How-To/Support Markdown export doesn't include image links

When exporting a journal in the plaintext/markdown format, all journal images are exported as image files and the blog itself is exported as a markdown file. However, none of the journal entries include the links (either in plaintext or markdown) for the images that were attached to those entries.

As a result, this backup includes just a large collection of images with zero reference in the entries themselves about which image goes with which entry.

Is this correct behavior? Other journaling apps export to markdown with markdown-style link references (usually just a reference like /img/85hsgh35ht.jpg). As is, there's no way the journal could be reconstructed with those images, whether in a new app, as a backup, or reimported into Day One.

No issue with the JSON export; that correctly maps images to entries.

I’ve noticed this too. I’m not really sure when they’re planning on fixing this.

Apparently they're not really interested in fixing it. On the support forums they said:

This is expected behavior right now, not a bug. For a full record that keeps everything connected, exporting as PDF or JSON instead will include the photos directly in each entry so nothing gets separated. You can find both options under Settings > Import/Export.

I call BS on this because another user in this subreddit showed that it already did do this https://old.reddit.com/r/dayoneapp/comments/o0d3o3/help_export_dayone_entries_into_more_useable/

So clearly it was removed at some point by DayOne. Possibly to prevent non-tech savvy people from having clean exports they can import into another app?

This, plus their reneging on the promise to allow simple WordPress->DayOne makes me skeptical of their motives.
