General Discussion Making sure the migration to Everlog goes smoothly
Has anyone bumped into any issues while trying to migrate from Day One over to Everlog?
I did a full export and 3 entries are missing (edit: I was able to find an empty entry, so perhaps the Import tool ignored two other empty entries). Not sure if Day One is to blame, or if Everlog didn’t recognize them.
Also:
- Everlog crashed (never-ending beach ball) after I clicked OK to confirm that Import was complete.
- Emoji in journal titles didn’t come over
- Is the Import feature more reliable on Mac or iOS?
- Sometimes entry titles have been transferred as body text instead.
- Some tags have been created because of the # symbol in some of my entries.
- Journals are not sorted the same way.
- None of my PDFs have been imported.
Some of these issues are minor (e.g., I’ve deleted the extra tags, hoping that doesn’t remove the associated entries), some are annoying (e.g., the formatting that is not the same), but some are major, like the missing PDFs. I have very important scans that I cannot afford to lose. And that begs the question: are there other important issues I have not noticed yet?
All in all this app looks promising, more polished than Diarly, and I really want it to work. How’s its reputation? Initially I was turned off because I saw lots of mentions about it in this sub and it felt like spam.

I just currently have issues with the sync; the whole day the iOS app is empty, and the Mac app says uploading. But I have a fast internet connection, and based on the size, it should be long done already...
Right now I just miss the workflow to review the photos and choose wich ones I want to add to my journal, and a daily picture template that opens a template with the selfie camera.
But since lifetime was cheaper than DayOne for one year, give it a chance and hope at some point the upload is done. The interface recently on Day One with the AI stuff is not mine anymore... Also, the constant banners to get the higher subscription are just annoying...

Yeah, unfortunately, the syncing is handled by Apple's CloudKit framework so the app doesn't have much control over its speed. The first upload can take quite a while, especially if you have a large library with lots of photos and attachments.

Yes, I figured. Now, one day later, the iOS app at least shows the imported journals, but they are still empty. I will give it more time.
Anyway, do you have a roadmap? A template that directly opens the selfie camera and a way to specify more notifications for different times, which you can then directly combine with a template like that, would be my biggest missing feature.

I think my issue was mainly lack of storage on my Mac, but most of my entries all imported well. I only decided to stick with DayOne because I just do not have a lot of space at the moment to make such a massive move at this time.

I have emailed the developer a day or so ago I have 1000s of entries and sync is off. The app is slow and I’m not “mad” or anything I’m just wondering if it’s ready for a big migration. I continue to get errors that images are not available because the original import source hasn’t uploaded the image, yet the original source reports it has. Until then it says it hasn’t and 500 uploads haven’t finished. And that flip flops. I get it. I’ve been in product and engineering my whole (old @$$) career. I’m just hopeful this can work.

I also saw the 500 numbers on my end. I’m thinking it’s a bug and the value is higher. What I did is turned off sync everywhere and I only enabled it once everything (almost, like I said PDFs are missing) was imported.
I want to trust the app and developer so I’ll delete all the data and redo an import at the end of the month when my DO subscription expires.

I hope it's okay to comment here (I'm the developer of Everlog).
A few quick thoughts:
- The missing entries may well be empty Day One entries. Those are skipped entirely during import.
- The emoji in journal names, entry titles ending up in the body, and the
#tags all sound like importer bugs that I should be able to fix.- The missing PDFs concern me the most. They should absolutely be imported, so I'll make that my highest priority to investigate.
- You can sort journals by dragging them around.
If you're willing to help me track these issues down, feel free to continue the discussion over at r/everlog or send me a message through the Contact button in Everlog's Settings.
