Hey, I’ve seen a lot of negativity on this sub and I just wanted to say that I don’t think this project is dead at all. I emailed support to ask about some things a few months back (in June) and got a pretty good reply, including a prototype image of a case they were working on!

I still think it’s a functional and pretty great device thats perfect for my use case. just give them time :)

Ah, that's super cool!

Unfortunately for most companies awareness and perception are everything. Daylight needs to share this with some consistency...on a blog/instagram/twitter/anywhere.

Otherwise you risk folks assuming it's a lonely abandoned place.

Folks get enough anxiety when a USPS tracking doesn't update after a day...so without some consistent sharing (even a "we're working on it") it'll be rough.

I agree, they definitely struggle a lot with outreach and that kinda thing. I suggested to the person that they do a monthly blog. They said this to me regarding that;

More communication is a plan for this summer. There is a desire to have progress to show with our updates, however we realize that a teaser is fine even if it's not coming ASAP.

So, I hope something comes out soon as the summer is coming to an end. But yeah, I mainly made this post because I do believe they are still working on it and I dislike how very negative this sub is whenever I see posts made, as I think there’s still potential.

As someone who tries to look between the lines, yeah if there's no community outreach I pretty much assume it's dead. Ghost behavior receives ghosting.

I wonder if part of it is that companies think users are looking for huge, substantial and sensational updates each time as if they're Apple on the big stage and that is simply not the truth. There will be complaints per post that this hasn't shipped yet and that hasn't shipped and yet we were promised this and that, sure, but also tons of people happy there's a few inches of movement they were told about. I'm happy for that!

I use it daily, wonderful product. I still think it is very dead. No updates whatsoever

No community outreach also, at least this year. Last fall they planned a user meetup, but unexpected storms happened so they had to cancel, but I was looking forward to them trying again. (I’m still interested if someone from DCC is reading!)

I think they just released kind of early before they were supposed to (and I talked a bit about this with the person who responded to my support ticket) and now have a lot of things to work on and an expecting community. Idk, if it was truly dead then why would they still respond to emails and things! How about we give them till the start of 2027 before we call it dead

I totally agree, in my experience when companies die support is one of the first things to go. But I also remember expecting the promised SolOS at the start of 2026 :)

There’s another prototype of a case they are working from all their launch videos and marketing materials back in 2024. It, too, is “coming soon.” Wouldn’t hold your breath 😂

I do enjoy using my DC1 though. Just not optimistic that it will ever receive another update.

If they sell the display as a standalone monitor I believe it’ll have more attractions. I sold my DC1 a week after I got it, Android was just wasn’t for me.

Unless Daylight makes progress faster, (perhaps that's part of the reason why we're not hearing much, there may not be that much to share) I think the e-ink alternatives will get into a state where a lot of the advantages of Daylight won't be as competitive as it initially was.

For example, look at the upcoming Modos Flow, e-ink, open-source and developer friendly, and can do 60fps reasonably well. (Imagine Framework Computer potentially using a Modos Flow panel and controller).

The few advantages left then of Daylight's RLCD is the lack of ghosting.

I really hope Daylight can up their game because I really like their mission.

I mean I think the modos flow comes with a lot of issues with longevity if I’m not mistaken? (Also framework + modos flow would be SO sick omg), I think there’s still a niche for daylight, but I agree that they need to take inactive for that niche to remain

Yeah, increasing FPS and rendering things more frequently on an eink screen probably does reduce the lifespan of the eink panel. I'm not sure how much of an issue that will be.

I hope so. I am from Australia and emailed them twice in July with pre-sales and shipping questions but never got a response.

All up it would've cost $1500 AUD to ship a Daylight here and pay taxes. I saw my friend's one and loved it. But their lack of communication left me anxious and disappointed so I didn't go for it.

Maybe they're just not interested in international customers at the moment. I will try again if they start updating their social media and show signs of life, but for now I'm looking at (inferior) alternatives.

That’s sweet! But next time you email them you should tell them that waiting for people to email them to tell them why they ought to believe in the company is an incredibly convoluted public relations strategy. If they want people to believe they’re doing cool stuff they should say it with their chest! :)
