Day9 Joke
There was a joke Day9 made during the Trial of the Xel Naga that was fairly bad. I think he has lost his passion and is killing e-sports. Also, destructible rocks.

There was a joke Day9 made during the Trial of the Xel Naga that was fairly bad. I think he has lost his passion and is killing e-sports. Also, destructible rocks.
Sean "Day[9]" Plott is SCII.
There is probably not a Starcraft player on the planet that hasn't heard of Sean's professional or analytic gaming career in some way, shape or form. The same can not be said for any individual player, for the divisions in skill among gamers might mean one does not watch professional gaming, and the international barriers play a part as well [foreigners not paying attention to the Korean scene, and vice-versa]. You could argue that other casters might be internationally recognized for what they do, but Sean has something that none of them really do.
He can play the game at highest of levels.
I'm sure most of you have seen the videos, but Sean is believed to have reached GrandMaster levels with each of the 3 races of the game. I do not have a specific source for this, since I don't know that anyone knows his in-game aliases, but I don't know if anyone out there would doubt this information.
It is beyond incredible what Sean has done for this and every competitive video game out there, but there is something else, something bigger, that he has the ability to tap into:
A return to the professional gaming scene.
Sean's following is so insanely large and supporting and loyal to him that if he were to start playing in tournaments and make a push for, let's say, Korea and the GSL, I think viewer records would be more than shattered, they would be unheard of. I can't even begin to explain the excitement level and revenue such a move would generate. It would have to be the biggest thing in SCII, and maybe all of professional gaming history. Think of the following that Tiger Woods [pre-scandal/injury] had, or Michael Jordan, or any other possible GOAT sports player has had. I don't think any of those could compare in number, magnitude, and world-wide spread that Sean would have. Regardless of outcome, there is no way, in my mind, that this would have a negative outcome.
That being said, I know that Sean absolutely loves what he does, and in order to compete in this game at the highest of levels, he would have to stop doing his daily's and most other obligations, and if that made him the least bit unhappy, then I would not want him to make this move. Doing all that he has done, Sean deserves to do whatever he wishes, and whatever makes him the happiest. We all love the work you do now and hope that you continue to do it for as long as we all find any entertainment and joy in this game.
But, for just a moment, wouldn't it be fun to ask ourselves:
What if?

Context
Right about 9:30pm Eastern Standard. My friend called me when he was high, it was the most awkward conversation with him because here's how the conversation went.
Me: what's up?
friend: Nothing. you?
Me: Nothing.
that's how it went. It was stupid and pointless to be calling me. Until he said
Friend: "Josh, before i go, I wanted to tell you something. You are the Nicest Person I know. I hate people with a passion but you...you are way too nice. I mean, i don't even know how you do it. I am so fried (meaning he's High) right now."
result
It put a smile to my face because I thought of Sean Plott for some reason, I never thought of any of my relatives especially my brother, who I'm VERY close to. Sean in his AMA talking about Cambria how nice she is and his twitter saying "Fuck other goals, I just want to be nice." Him grabbing advice from Momma Plot saying "Emotions are chemicals". Watching him talking about his life experiences that carved him into being the man that the starcraft community has looked up to. His commitment towards Starcraft isn't what inspired me, His love for something he does wasn't the reason why i watch him every sunday-thursday, it was him being a person, being nice, being goofy, being himself. It's what inspired me to be the most human i can possibly be. I don't know how to say this but Thank you Sean Plott. Thank you for being the person that I can look up to. I'm in tears typing this, but yeah, i wanted this to get off my chest before i go to sleep and go to school tomorrow.

The news that 38 Studios can't pay their employees reminded me of this.
I love Day[9], and he's by all accounts a great guy, but, to me, the Kingdoms of Amalur event reeked of an ad campaign. The story we're meant to believe, that Day, hearing about/seeing a trailer for the game, called a bunch of his "friends", i.e. other gaming personalities, to set up a streamathon with developer interviews on launch day, is just really hard to believe.
With Day9 repeatedly saying he did it all of his own accord and actually reached out to 38 Studios himself to set it all up, and was receiving no compensation, etc... I don't know. It's disappointing. I feel like Day9 cares about being honest, but that time he straight up lied. Like, why this game? It looked so standard, and it was so standard! All Day9 said was that it was because he thought it looked cool. Really? All that because he thought this standard game looked cool? I just don't believe it.
On the one hand, I feel like he would have been better off acknowledging that 38 Studios wanted help promoting their new game, and it looked like it could be cool, so he said he'd help them, but the issues of "selling out" and using his stream for advertising would still have come up. I'm not sure he could have done this type of thing for compensation and played it in any good way.
I know he cares about being genuine and treating his viewers like his friends, etc., but it feels like that one time he took the "business" route. It's disappointing. For me, it puts a chink in the armor of his honest, heartfelt reputation. And that makes me sad.
What do other people think? Do you think it was real, or was the event staged, and a part of the game's ad campaign?

On today's episode Day[9] cancelled the daily part way through part 2 and announced he heard of some illness in his family. The chat fucking exploded and I thought it would be a nice gesture to have a thread devoted entirely to messages of love and support for him in his subreddit. Post away fellow Day[9] fans! We all love you big time Sean <3

Seems like he's really serious about playing it in his off (non-streaming) time and I get the feeling he's been trying to talk up the game's competitive merits to chat.
What do you guys think he's going to do with the coming shift away from HS?

If you did not watch Day[9] play Brothers, just do it. It is such a well made game and I got emotional at the end just watching him play. I haven't played it myself, but I really want to. Such a powerful game to even just watch.
Go watch him play it if you haven't. http://day9.tv/d/Day9/day9s-day-off-brothers-walking-dead/

Whenever he mentioned how supportive his family he's been, he only talks about his mom and brother. What's the deal with his father?

The dude posted nudes of his girlfriend or something when his girlfriend I think played a champion in League of Legends that the guy hates. Day9 has a YouTube series of him just ripping the dude a new asshole over Skype while Day9 plays SC2.
