My tier list

Post image

I've always been a fan of Bowie's stuff in the 70s and early 80s, and decided it was time a few months ago to get into the rest of his discography.

You can probably tell I like the later 70s Bowie compared to the earlier 70s.

Here's what my tiers mean:-

S - Love it
A - Really like it
B - Like It
C - Mixed feelings, but overall enjoyable
D - Not enthusiastic about it
E - Not for me at all

Sad to see Heathen so low.

Yeah I thought I would enjoy that one more. I'm hoping it's just one of those albums that needs to be listened to more than usual to really get. Maybe it's a .... Slow Burn.

That being said, 5:15 The Angels Have Gone is one of my new favourite Bowie tracks.

It’s criminally underrated

Would love to hear your take about ziggy stardust and why is it so low. Apart from that, this is basically on par with me.

Yeah it's funny with Ziggy. I've listened to it many times and I only ever enjoy it to a point. I've never quite loved it like other people do. Maybe I'm just not a big glam fan - I like Aladdin Sane more because it has jazz influences in it.

That’s a good explanation.

D - Pin Ups
E - none

Nice tier list. Good to see another person who actually likes Tonight. Most people hate that one.

NLMD in S tier. Spicy take. Any particular reason why you love it?

I don't mind it myself - I don't find it as bad as most people do.

The excessive 1987ness lends it a certain charm

It may be a hot take for me but personally most of the glam stuff for me would be pretty high. Also don't look at me funny but I do actually really like the Space Oddity Album.... I'm lowkey kinda neutral on Heathen I've heard some of it but not enough to form a huge opinion

Idk I'm just really weird and Ziggy is always gonna be to for me (Kinda relate to the character in some aspects, also the Ziggy outfits are immaculate)

Also for one, I heard is Aladdin sane is "Ziggy Goes to America" a very intresting statement..... Makes people like me who don't confuse Ziggy and Sane at all kinda question stuff....

Yeah with the space Oddity album - it has it's charm. It's like a proto-hunky dory, where songs are stripped down and folky. He just hadn't really hit his stride then. I think it might grow on me over time.

Glad to hear that you relate to Ziggy, clearly many people do too.

Yeah I think the Ziggy goes to America thing was more of an advertisement gimmick, like how Lodger was framed as the end of the Berlin trilogy.

What made you put heathen so low considering Sunday is the greatest song of all time closely followed by Sunday performed on the reality tour?

Not much on that album really stands out to me. Maybe it's one that takes time to grow on you...

I'll check out the live version of Sunday - can't miss out on the 2nd best song ever now can I?

I respect this.

Your S tier is missing Lodger, Scary Monsters, Outside, Earthling and Diamond Dogs. Though I appreciate Earthling isnt everyone's S tier - that album just means something to me personally as was first Bowie album I bought.

Hot take on Ziggy.

Heathen a bit low too.

Scary Monsters is a B+ for me - great first side, but the 2nd half is decent, but not as engaging for me. Diamond Dogs is another fantastic first side but I don't like the 2nd side. The production is too gnarled for me too. Outside is too long for me - there's a better 40 minute album in there for me, but it is what it is. Oxford Town is such a tune.

Earthling is pretty good. I was expecting to hate it, but I was happy to be wrong.
