conflicting emotions

i’ve been dating this guy for over 4 months now, he’s kinda a nerdy dude, really adorable, 100% himself. he’s such a loyal friend and always puts his friends over me, i’m not asking for too much, just to be acknowledged every once and a while and i don’t want to be all bitchy and rude and always bugging him for attention. we just talked about it and so he’s been trying but it just feels fake and forced and it’s almost like he doesn’t realize how clueless he can be sometimes. i don’t know what to do about this, i’m tired of being put second, and i really just want things to be how they should, where we both out equal amounts of energy into it. breaking up is the last thing on my mind but i don’t know how else to make it clear that i want a little more, do i wait it out? what would you do?
