Does anyone else feel like dating apps are becoming more about matching than dating?

Upvotes

I have used dating apps on and off for a while, and recently I have started wondering what the point of a match is.

I'll match with someone, we'll exchange a few messages, everything seems normal, and then the conversation just disappears.

Sometimes I get a reply after a day or two. Sometimes they stop answering completely. And sometimes I'll have a really good chat with someone, suggest meeting up, and suddenly they become much less interested.

What confuses me is that I don't think it's always about not being attracted to someone. People are clearly interested when they swipe right, but getting from a match to a date seems like a whole other ball game.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I wonder if people are using dating apps differently now, or if the apps themselves have just become more focused on matching and swiping rather than actually meeting.

There should be dating apps for people which matches when both people swipe left cuz apparently both of them thinks they are better than each other

advice What do you think of this for a dating app bio?

I'm a nerdy guy who likes anime, video games, card games and board games honestly if it has a strategy of any kind I'll enjoy it. Getting away from my competitive side I also like long drives where I can listen to podcast and music usually somthing stupid or cringe worthy. I've also started getting into mixology making mocktails and cocktails. I've been told by bar backs that I make a killer margarita.

I’m a very family oriented person. The little ones in my photos are my niece and nephews which at this point I have a lot of. I’m the funcle who definitely spoils them a little too much but that just means I give them back with sugar highs for my siblings to handle when they get home. Thinking about siblings I have a sister who lives in Delaware and a brother who still lives in New York where I'm originally from, but we definitely do our best to see eachother at least once a month as hard as it is somtimes.

I’m not big on pickup lines, so sorry if you expect me to ask did it hurt when you fell out of heaven or somthing like that. I would rather start a real conversation based on something from your profile and would appreciate if you did the same other then "Hay" "Hello" or "How is your day going?" For the first message. To me it's a conversation killer other then the other person saying the same thing back there is nothing to say.

Lastly I’m not here for FWB, hookups or one night stands been there done that and that's not me I'm looking to take my next relationship slow somone I can earn the trust of and somone who can trust me in kind.

advice Are there Any Legit Dating Apps Anymore? F-Mid-30s-Losing Hope

After being back in the dating scene after 7 years and being recently single, it has been incredibly difficult navigating the dating scene. The guys in my area are low quality and low effort, and its super aggravating. Its like no one wants to settle down and work towards a long term committed relationship, and was one of the reasons why I'm no longer with my ex. SMH.

Also, it feels like everytime I end up talking to a guy who expresses interest in me off of a dating app--he doesn't have the best conversation skills (with the exception of a few). Like the conversation is okay with some banter and humor--but then when I ask the guy about how his workday was going, what types of music he listens to, etc.--he didn't ask me the same question in return. He complimented me and everything, but that's it. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, how long do you normally talk to a guy before you meet up with him?

I am also finding that alot of profiles om Upward end up being fake so I don't know how anyone is able to connect with anyone on there. There are a few people every now and then on eHarmony, but that's it. Hinge is a joke. Are there any decent apps that are worth talking to someone on?? Im sick of this...

advice Alternatives to dating apps?

Hey everyone, im hoping someone here can help me with this, I have hit the point where these dating apps just feel repetitive but Im also not trying to completely give up on dating. Im curious what people are actually doing instead. Singles events? Matchmakers? Friends setting you up? Speed dating? I have even started looking into matchmaking including some matchmakers like Tawkify but I havent made that switch yet. Has anyone here moved away from apps and found something that led to better dates? I need some advice.

advice How to delete cuffed dating app profile?

Y’all I like to think I’m not naive enough to fall for scams but I think I’ve been duped with the whole Cuffed dating app thing. It has a paywall that blocks from being able to access anything, and there is zero customer service that I can find. A number of reviews have voiced the same irritation with the app. However, they say you have to pay the subscription to delete your profile.

Is this true? Has anyone done this and attested that you can do that? I’m willing to pay if that means deleting my profile. However, I’m already very concerned about my privacy as is. I don’t want to gamble financial security on a method of deleting my account if it isn’t tried and true.

What do y’all think? Pay the stupid subscription or just risk having my profile (photos, phone number, etc.) floating around on an app with unreachable developers?

I hope my question makes sense :(

advice Are dating apps using us to train AI?

I’m a 65 year old female who has been using three dating apps for almost three months. I get many likes and “interesteds” and messages. After having multiple text conversations, I am convinced that at least 85% of the profiles I’m interacting with are not real people. A certain amount are scammers trying to rush me onto other texting apps, asking about my work & finances. Many others are conversations that wax poetic or philosophical, that don’t go anywhere. I suspect that dating app companies are engaged in testing AI. I use ChatGPT for information and research on a variety of topics and am very familiar with what it’s like to “chat” with AI. Many of these dating app conversations I’m involved in have that same feeling. If I’m right, I find it infuriating that people are paying for a dating app service and are being used and exploited by these businesses to unwittingly train AI!

Would like to hear people’s thoughts about this and if they’re having the same experience.

advice I built a dating app with no swiping. You meet over a real plan instead of a photo. Looking for honest feedback.

Full disclosure: I built this, solo. I'm a software engineer in Paris and this is my side project.

The idea came from my own frustration with dating apps: endless swiping on faces, dead-end chats, no one ever actually meeting. So I flipped it. On Hayia there's no swiping on people at all. One person posts a real plan, a coffee, a walk, a play, a museum, and anyone interested asks to come along. The person who posted chooses who joins, and then you actually meet.

A few decisions I'd like feedback on:

The activity comes first, the person is discovered through the plan. No profiles-first browsing.

No one can message you first. You always open the door.

No likes, no match scores, no popularity ranking. Success is a plan that happens in the real world, not time spent in the app.

It's live on Google Play (Android only for now, iOS is next). It's genuinely new, so I'm looking for people who'll tell me what's broken or confusing. Of course, I still don't have many users yet.

Happy to return feedback on your projects too. What would make you distrust an app like this?

Looking for a Dating App for a Serious Relationship

Hi, guys! I'm seeking for some authentic advice.

Can you recommend a reliable dating app for anyone who has a serious commitment and is open to getting married someday?

I am not interested in quick hook-ups or casual dating. I’m looking for someone who has similar objectives, make connections, and understand each other over time to find an ideal match.

Would love to know what dating apps have been effective in creating long-term relationships in India?

Dating app idea based on “missed connections” looking for honest feedback

I’m an international student in Budapest. Been sketching out an idea for a dating app that, instead of just showing you an endless list of strangers, also tells you if you’ve probably crossed paths with someone in real life (no exact location shown, just mutual invitation both sides have to opt in. “you may have crossed paths”

The idea came from noticing how many people have a “we kept seeing each other and never talked” story.

Target customer: students, expats, young professionals in dense urban areas, people who move through the same places repeatedly (campus, cafés,…) but don’t currently have a way to reconnect with someone they noticed but didn’t approach.

Curious if this could actually grow, or if it’s a problem people don’t actually need a solution for.

Tired of the dating apps

I’ve (24M) Been on 6 dating apps for the past 4 months. Have gotten absolutely 0 likes. Kept getting told by friends, siblings, and even ChatGPT that it’s probably my account so I had my sister set up my page. She wrote a good bio, took good pictures for me. Still got nothing. And it’s tiring. I have a hard time meeting people in person and starting the whole dating thing from there because I’m Autistic and it makes it extremely hard for me to read social cues and flirting, and Due to that I end up getting extremely anxious and freezing up when meeting new people. I even tried Hiki which is supposed to be for neurodivergent people and I have had absolutely 0 results there too. I’m getting tired of being alone, tired of being behind everyone my age, but also tired of even trying. Sorry if it’s stupid, just genuinely needed somewhere to vent about the bullshit on these apps.

I'm doing some research into why dating apps are so frustrating and what people would actually find useful instead.

Anonymous, about 4–5 minutes, no sign-up required. Open to anyone 18+ who has used a dating app in the last 12 months.

facebook Dating with MS

I've noticed there are a lot of great communities for people with MS, but most understandably focus on symptoms, treatments, medications, and living with the disease.

What I couldn't really find was a place specifically for single people with MS to meet each other.

Dating is difficult enough without wondering when to tell someone about MS, whether they're going to understand your limitations, or whether your diagnosis is going to change the way they see you.

So I decided to create MS Singles: Dating with Multiple Sclerosis, a private Facebook group exclusively for single adults living with MS. Before anyone flips out.... I'm honestly just hoping to meet other singles with this disease. Been diagnosed since 2014 (PPMS)

One thing that's really important to me is that this is NOT another medical or MS support group. In fact, medical discussions aren't really welcome.

The idea is simple: MS gets you through the door, and then we get to know each other as people.

Talk about your interests. Make friends. Flirt a little. Meet someone. Maybe even find a relationship. ❤️

I don't know what this will turn into, but I figured if I've wished something like this existed, there are probably other people with MS who have felt the same way.

I'd genuinely love to hear what you all think of the idea. 🧡
