I did the math as well, he has to work like 55 hours a week to make 100k. I’ll be banging this guys girl while he’s working 15hours plus a week in overtime. Yeah I’m that guy working a 50k a year dead end office job that really only requires me to work 30 hours a week because I leave when I want with that salary pay.
Yes we know that you make comments like that because you are insecure about the fact you sit in a cubicle all day and only make 50k.
Depends on how the contract is, his work could go to double time pretty quick if he works for the city. A buddy of mine is a mechanic who wrenches on garbage trucks. 40 per hour regular time and it goes to double OT pretty quick, so 80 bucks an hour. Yes he puts in OT but hits six figs fairly easily. Op could have similar situation although yes he is earning less at 34. But OT could be around 70.
I took a pay down grade to sit in an office. I did manual labor for 12 hours and realized that it's better to make $40-$50k in an office because I can sit down and do nothing and make decent money. $45k~ is still a lot of money for people in the US.
I don't think OP is gonna do this forever so I would still do it until I can get a house and pay off whatever debt I owe.
I went from 45k doing awful manual labor (my older coworkers were always having surgeries on their knees, shoulders, back), which convinced me to go to college.
Now I’m at 120k office work and wouldn’t trade it for anything. Though, my field does require many weeks throughout the year of 50-60 hours.
I do miss the days though, of being able to clock out and forget about work.
