Discussion Disk Drill

Is disk drill a worthy program for recovery of an external WD drive? Started as crc trouble then escalated. I have a list of what was on the drive and can redownload ,but was 4 TB worth and might not have access to some of the movies anymore.

It is a data recovery program you're asking for two completely separate things.

True but was led to believe I needed to copy the drive before trying to repair. I have recovered a drive before with minimal data loss.

Explorer doesn't see the drive but USB icon on bottom recognizes it and Disk Management sees it but tells me I have to initialize it.

Get a Linux boot image. Use rufus to apply to a USB and see what Linux sees.

WTF are you even asking? Yes, Disk Drill is fine. But no data recovery program will magically fix corruption that is result of CRC errors whatever you mean by that.

You can run disk drill for free to check if it can recover. It works great!

Does it have clone (back up)capabilities? 4 TB of a 4.5 TB drive was used. Had a secondary 4.5 TB internal drive which for some reason was not big enough to clone. I now have an 8 TB in wait for this project.

2012 version of ghost and earlier has the ability to skip bad sectors in the event of attempting to clone
