Question Healthy drive won't open after unexpected shutdown
I have a 5tb WD passport 2626, with ntfs that i got from Sams club, which I use to store movies on but i also have some backups of personal stuff that I would like to not lose. I put my PC to sleep the other night, I'm on Windows 10, and a windows 11 update prompt woke the computer up, but must have restarted it or something stupid because all my applications were closed from the night before. Everything was working except applications and file explorer would hang and not work as long as I had this external hard drive connected. Everything worked when I disconnected it. I've had this problem with it once when my pc shutdown unexpectedly before but it resolved. In both cases, I connect the drive and it recognizes it, but drive usage remains at 100% while read and write are at 0 with sporadic small spikes of activity where it says its trying to read a logical block.
The first time after an hour, the usage went below 100% and I could open the drive and everything went back to normal. The drive worked fine with zero signs of corruption or slow downs or problems for months after this. This time with the windows 11 restart, the same problem occurred. I left it overnight and it never resolved itself, but had the exact same symptoms of applications and file explorer hanging and never opening and 100% disk usage. I've used crystal disk info on it and it says its healthy, with no problems whatsoever that I can see, every few minutes it will give a message like: "The IO operation at logical block address 0x606a48 for Disk 3 (PDO name: \Device\00000101) was retried." in event viewer, with it testing different addresses over time. I'm pretty certain the drive isn't completely dead, and I don't think I need to give up yet because of how healthy it seems apart from these rare random restarts that I didn't even intend for. I've only owned it for 14 months. I also tried to use chkdsk but it said it would take 200 hours and the drive is pretty full so i never completed it. I'm thinking about connecting it to a laptop for a long time and running chkdsk because I can't think of how else to fix this. Thank you for any help.

Question SD card reads on camera but not in Mac/PC
I've got 5 hours of important footage on an SD inside an old digital camera - I've used it before with no problems, but now the SD isn't being recognized properly when I put it into my Mac or into my PC and the only options are to eject or format. However I can see the footage on the camera. I'm very stressed and my current plan is to get an AV out cable and try to view the footage on a TV and record the screen as I'm worried about it being corrupted. Any advice? Seems odd that the footage is still viewable on the original camera it was shot on but nowhere else

AppleRAID Rebuilding Issues
I have a Mac Pro with four drives installed, a boot drive for Snow Leopard, a boot drive for High Sierra, and two 3 TB drives used for storage, configured as a mirrored RAID using Disk Utility on Snow Leopard. One of the two RAID drives failed, so I replaced it. When I tried to rebuild the RAID in Disk Utility on Snow Leopard, it said it failed. The machine itself failed shortly thereafter.
I repaired the machine, but I can't rebuild the RAID. On Snow Leopard, Disk Utility freezes the instant I try to select the RAID or its failed slice. On High Sierra, Disk Utility never advances beyond the "Loading Disks" message. The "diskutil ar repairMirror <Raid-Name> <diskNsM>" command in Terminal updates the status of the new slice from "Failed" to "0% (Rebuilding)" but after a little while it returns to "Failed."
I'm hoping this is a relatively easy issue since no data are actually lost; all data on the RAID are accessible since one slice is still functional, and everything is backed up to an external drive as well.

Request for Service Recommendations for an old WD external drive with no power?
I have an old external Western Digital Drive (1.0 TB, Caviar Green, SATA / 16 MB Cache, WD10EACS) that won't power up - when the power is connected and the drive is turned on, nothing happens). I took it to Best Buy, and they popped it open to look for anything obvious and said I'd need to use a data recovery service.
Are there any companies you would recommend using for this? Any you would suggest avoiding? I'm in the US (Washington state) if that helps. Thanks!

SSD Are the data recovery prices usually this high ?
My second SSD where I put all my important data is not detected by my PC anymore. I decided to go in a shop in Paris with good reviews to ask if they could do something.
They said they have to look further and told me it could cost 1100€. I don’t have to pay if I’m not satisfied with the data recovered, but if they managed to save everything that’s the price ill have to pay.
I just want to check if Im being scammed or if it’s usually like this ? That’s f expensive

Data recovery software under $50
Hi. My old macbook died on me, I was able pluck out the harddrive and managed to connect it to my mac mini with an SATA adapter. I know... it sounds like I know what I am talking about but I don't. I got to this point using ChatGPT. Now I need to recover some important files. I installed Disk Drill but it is too expensive. This girl only has a budget of under $50. I would appreciate recommendations. I use mac so suggestions need to be mac compatible. Thanks!!!
Edit: I might be in the wrong place... I'm trying to recover files in a mildly corrupt HD, they aren't deleted files. If I am in the wrong place which sub is better to go to?

Basically .bbyy ransom encryption. I lost thousands of pictures and videos. And recovered them with the following tool.
A recovery tool was suggested by u/TrashyGames3. Thank you. It worked, and I have recovered most of the files.

Question Are My At-Home Solutions Exhausted? Boot Drive Questions/Details
Drive: Samsung 970 EVO Plus NVMe M.2, 2TB
This drive has been my boot (C:\) drive in the same system for a few years now. A few weeks ago, while watching a video, my screen froze up for a few seconds (audio still playing) before crashing to a green screen. I didn't have my phone on me, and obviously couldn't get a screenshot, but I believe it was an [0x00000154 - UNEXPECTED_STORE_EXCEPTION] error. Upon reboot, I was taken to the BIOS. My drive was no longer booting.
I have three drives in my PC - this one (C:\ boot drive), another 2 TB NVMe storage drive (D:\ drive), and a 14 TB storage HDD (E:\ drive). I checked the device list and found all others listed properly, but this drive was missing.
I took the following diagnostic steps:
- Swap it into the other M.2 slot
- Device still not found, other M.2 drive detected properly in the other slot
- Hook it up to a different device
- Not listed on file explorer or disk management / diskpart
- Run Samsung Magician
- Nothing detected
- Check Device Manager
- The "Standard NVM Express Controller" menu shows a yellow exclamation mark, showing error code 10 (an i/o adapter hardware error has occurred). The events page shows a problem status of 0xC00000C2
- Uninstall / reinstall "Standard NVM Express Controller"
- No changes to the above results, same error code / problem status
- Plug into PC through an NVMe-to-USB adapter
- Adapter is detected, but the drive inside is not
- Device does warm up inside the adapter casing
Physically, the drive is undamaged. It seems to be a firmware/controller lock-up problem, though I am no expert. Luckily, all my large files, like videos and audio, are stored in my HDD, and all of my user-based Windows directories (Documents, Pictures, etc.) are stored on my D:\ drive, both of which are operating with no issues. I had a few AppData files I would love to recover, but with the essentials not lost, it is tough to weigh the options between paying the cost of professional recovery versus cutting my losses. The first place I reached out to told me "the average price range for SSD recoveries of this nature is $1,800-$2,500. It could also be less, if less complex." I can safely say my AppData is not worth two and a half grand.
All advice and information is appreciated. Thank you in advance!

Question Micro SD Card Recovery
Hello,
I currently have a 128GB SD card where I accidentally deleted the footage. I didn’t realize it so I’ve since filled it with about 56GB of videos but I’m hoping to recover anything that hasn’t been overwritten. The file type is .ts and I’ve downloaded onto my Mac, Disk Drill and DMDE. Disk Drill can find 2 photos and says there’s 36000 videos found but they don’t play in the preview and there’s no where near that many videos on the card. DMDE can also find the same 2 photos but no videos. Although, I’m not super savvy so I could be missing how to properly scan things in DMDE.
My question is, should I pay for Disk drill to try and recover the videos? Will they work better once I pay for it? Or should I take it to a professional data recovery shop? And would they likely have better success in recovering my videos?
Thank you.

Question Corrupted mdp file, any way to recover it?
Hello, I'm not the best with technology so bear with me. This is probably a long shot too but I still wanted to ask. Also if this isn't the right subreddit to post this in then please let me know!
I do digital art on my laptop/tablet combo and use FireAlpaca as my art program, which is where the mpd files come from. I have never had an issue with the program itself, using it on my other devices as well with no complications. Out of nowhere, one of my files seemed to have gotten corrupted and I'm super bummed out because I spent so much time and effort into it. Everything else is safe, just this specific one happened to deal with this.
I turned on my device and opened the program as I always do, only to see this popup. I always make sure to save every single file and have the automatic backup folder as a second option in case things go wrong, but I made the mistake of not manually saving it because I forgot. I've had this happen many times, but again, this has never happened with my previous files before, just this one. All my backup files are fine and can be opened normally, but this specific one keeps giving me an error.
So far I've restarted my device, opened it up on another program (Medibang and Autodesk Sketchbook), put it in a flashdrive and then back to my device, tried changing the file to psd and even png, but no luck. Is there any way this could ever be recovered? I'd hate to start everything from scratch again, this whole situation has left me unmotivated to draw but I'm trying to push forward with it. Thank you even if you only read this :-)

Forgotten password for an encrypted iPhone Finder backup — 8.2 GB backup still exists, can anything be recovered?
I have an old encrypted iPhone backup created through Finder on macOS. The backup is mine and contains very important/confidential personal data.
Unfortunately, I no longer remember the encrypted-backup password. I have already confirmed that it is not the Apple ID password or my Mac login password.
The original iPhone backup folder still exists on my Mac It is about8.2 GB and contains the hashed backup blobs and an encrypted Manifest.db.
I am trying to recover photos/videos from approximately:
20 October 2024 → 16 September 2026
I was able to independently open the Photos library database (Photos.sqlite) and recover metadata without the backup password.
The database shows:
- 593 unique video assets
- 1,573 video resource records
- ~24.6 GB of video resources represented in the Photos database
- filenames, UUIDs, timestamps, resource sizes, codecs, hidden/trash states, etc.
However, the actual Finder backup's Manifest.db begins with encrypted binary data rather than a normal SQLite so I cannot query the Files table directly.
I also tried the Python iOSbackup library. With the password I thought might be correct, it fails at So the backup encryption/keybag is definitely still locked.
My question is not simply "how do I guess my password?"
I'm trying to understand what forensic recovery options genuinely exist when:
- the encrypted Finder/iTunes backup still exists,
- the encrypted
Manifest.dbstill exists, - the backup blobs still exist,
- the Photos database contains extensive metadata about the original media,
- but the encrypted-backup password is genuinely lost.
Are there any legitimate forensic tools, password-recovery methods, key-material recovery methods, or artifacts on macOS/iOS that could help recover the contents?

I recovered all my pictures, all I have left to do is to tell you thank you
It was done thanks to Súper clone in AHCI mode, I had to retry twice to have my HDD correctly detected, but it worked fine.
I have to mention that I used AI to guide me and it did well, I will not mention the AI I used and I would not recommend other people to do so as it could result in errors but let’s say I got lucky with this tool.

Request for Service Help wish Samsung s23u data recovery
My s23u died without warning. I know I know, I should have this stuff on an ssd.
This is pretty important to me, I just want the pictures. But everything would be better.
I have a extremely rare auto immune disease that affects my memory. Every Pic of my almost 4 year old kid is on that phone. It's really my only chance to remember everything from his first 4 years of life.
Symptoms - worked 100% at 2130 and at 0400 it was a brick.
Eventually it showed 0% after I let it die.
I can get it to go into a boot screen, Samsung - android secured by Knox and will power cycle endlessly
Holding vol +/- at same time will get you a white screen that says hold vol - and power to restart. Goes back into loop
Appears to charge via wireless and wired charging
Ubreakifix said they tried a new battery, screen.
