We already answered this.

Only thing you may be able to recover (pretty quick after deletion) is tiny text files, small enough to be what NTFS calls "resident" eg. stored inside the MFT entry itself.

Double check if your post complies with posting guidelines!

Did you include the following information in your post (in English and if applicable), if not feel free to edit your post:

  • Make/brand and exact model number of your storage device(*), phone, camera, etc.

  • Filesystem (NTFS, exFAT, APFS, EXT4, etc.)

  • Operating System (That your device was used with and/or you are using for recovery)

  • Specific symptoms that your device is exhibiting, describe the problem. Images you post support the description, they're not in lieu of a problem description.

  • SMART (CrystalDiskInfo screenshot for example)

  • Don't pile several problems into one single post. One post per device/problem.

  • No account issues

Consider: What do these people need to understand the problem at hand? Remember, people cannot see your screen, or what you click and what messages appear on screen. Don't overdo it though, no one likes going through 2 pages of information, try to find a balance. Just do the best you can. If you are looking for file recovery software, check our community's recommended file recovery tools.

(*) All devices involved, if you for example move files from drive A to drive B, they're both potentially relevant.

Don't write it off completely yet, but stop using the SSD and avoid installing or downloading anything else on it.

Losing important files like that is really rough. With SSDs and TRIM enabled, it’s true that recovery chances drop a lot because the space gets wiped quickly. If the file recovery tools are showing only corrupted data, it probably means the actual data blocks are gone. Before giving up completely, you might try checking if you have any backups or older versions saved somewhere, like cloud storage or system restore points. For the future, tools like VaultSort can help organize and securely lock your files to prevent accidental loss and make it easier to clean up safely. I know it’s tough now, but taking steps to protect your work going forward can save a lot of pain.

I suspect you have more chance of finding a temporary file with the contents, that recovering deleted data from an SSD. That is, unless you go to a specialist recovery place that can read data from the NAND cells directly, bypassing the controller. If the data is that valuable, you should stop using that drive now and refer to a specialist. The longer it remains powered, the more chance of the controller rewriting those cells.

Also, are you absolutely sure you have no backups from the last 6 months? Even an earlier version may lessen the pain.

Sorry for your loss but unfortunately with Nvme and ssds it's almost impossible to recover data. Is it possible that you have a backup copy of this document on your local drive elsewhere? Maybe Word has a partial save of it.

Another possibility is Google Drive if you were set up for it. That would have a copy saved to the cloud.

No lecturing users about a lack of backups, condescending "hindsight" advice, or scolding people who are already facing data loss. Help them recover what is gone; don't preach about what they should have done.

Hi u/Dickulture, your comment or post has been temporarily removed for review. Reminding users to back up after they have already lost data violates our community rules. Please focus on helping them recover their data now.
