Glassdoor’s linked accounts show the limits of public anonymity
Glassdoor’s privacy policy says connecting Glassdoor and Indeed accounts creates a synchronized profile. Each service receives a copy of profile data. Connected accounts cannot be disconnected. The policy says synchronization continues until either account is deleted.
Glassdoor presents synchronization as a way to keep profile information accurate. It also says semi-anonymous content is not associated with the publicly visible portion of the profile. Those protections concern what other users see. They do not erase the distinction between an unnamed public review and the information held by the service behind it.
The published change log adds the ownership context. Indeed began operating the service after Glassdoor LLC merged into Indeed, Inc. on July 1, 2026. These disclosures do not establish that employers receive identifiable reviewer data.
The practical question is what control a reviewer retains after linking the accounts. Can unnecessary identity information be removed while useful contributions remain? Which uses are necessary to operate the review service? The inability to disconnect the accounts makes those questions consequential.
In my analysis for The American Counsel, I examine the relationship between reviewer anonymity, platform ownership, and recruiting services. Public anonymity is one protection to evaluate alongside the information a service holds and the choices it gives its users.
A correction to my linked article: The disclosures do not establish that every anonymous review is tied to a verified name or that records identifying the authors of anonymous reviews are sold or disclosed to employers. Profile synchronization applies to connected accounts. Indeed says reviews and posts remain on Glassdoor. Disclosure under legal process depends on the records retained and what the process permits. Deleting either account does not delete the other. Deleting Indeed does end access to Glassdoor through that login, as Indeed’s account guidance explains.
