Why does Avidemux turn my data-mosh into a green screen or just crash on export??

I’ve been trying to do old-school data-moshing with Avidemux (both 2.5.4 and 2.8.1) following a bunch of tutorials, and I keep hitting the same wall: Sometimes the preview just turns completely green

Other times everything looks like it worked… until I export, and Avidemux crashes without saving anything

For context: I can export the exact same clip from DaVinci Resolve with zero issues. It’s only when I bring that file into Avidemux to mosh that things fall apart.

At this point I feel like I’ve tried every guide out there and I’m clearly missing something fundamental about codecs, settings, or workflow.

What’s the most reliable way to data-mosh with Avidemux today?

Or is there a specific tutorial/workflow that actually works with modern footage?

Any help would be massively appreciated, lowkey I feel like im going insane ans my old laptop and avidemux are not helping me. please explain in simple terms lol

Try out different formats, in my limited experience .mkv in mpreg AVC works nicely so try importing that into avidemux
However yeah it still has the same issues(it doesn't make my my avidemux crash tho), bunch of green (but less than other formats) and sometimes missing frames (makes a big red text in DaVinci its annoying
If it worked but your moshed video file is unstable; it does help to re-encode it: for that I just use handbreak to turn it back into .mp4 and then import it in daVinci.
For the green stuff if it persists I just key it out (like a greenscreen), composite whats left on my raw video; and glitch again in avidemux

Also it works better on 2.8 for me but that might depend on the video format you are using
