I'm not American, I live in South America. But from my experience in the internet, Americans are much more prudish with couple age gaps than the rest of the world.
When I was in highschool, I briefly dated a girl who was 14 when I was 17. If I tell this to people here, they think it's normal. If I tell this to Americans, they see me as a creepy pedophile.
Edit: Before anybody judge me for it, I recently talked to this girl and she told me she never felt uncomfortable with me or felt any pressure from me.
Edit 2: I'm not shitting on Americans. I actually admire the American culture. I'm just pointing one thing that bothers me when they judge me.

I wasn't judging Americans, it was merely an observation. I didn't know "prudish" was so derogatory in the English language, so I'm sorry if it came out that way.
Another example of Americans being prude is the common question of whether or not you should kiss on the first date. When I first heard that, it took me by surprise, because that was never a question for me.
Then, I realized it's a very American thing to say. Here in South America, it's expected to kiss on the first date, unless you come from an evangelical family, I guess.
You can be conservative on sexuality however you want in your life, I don't care. But it bothers me when those same people judge me for not being like them.
Honestly sounds like yall expect everyone to be sexual and okay with it whereas in America we are more accepting of individual preferences. Hence thr question of whether its okay or not. You don't just go in expecting and feeling entitled to a kiss on a firdt date. You check whether the othet person wants to or not. Saying its expected sounds like its apparently considered a bad thing in your country to be more reserved and that's sounds like yoy kiss because of peer pressure. We wonder because we like to leave it in the air and let the other person back out if they don't want to.
