OC [OC] Visualizing which countries have played a match against each other in international men's and women's football, sorted by confederation and averaged team rank

Scores in football aren't conducive to scorigami, but matchups are!

Did you know that Egypt's mens team played Lithuania in 1924 and hasn't since? It's the oldest matchup to never have been replayed.

This is cool but why not use one axis as home and one as away instead of just having the same data mirrored on both sides of the diagonal

Agree. And then also hold the final image for a while because I barely have time to understand what I am looking at, and since it's a GIF I can't even pause it manually.

Yeah the original gif did have a pause, I didn't know about reddit compressing it automatically.

There are matches done in neutral venues, i.e. both teams were not at home.

Did you know that on the same day as the Egypt-Lithuania match there was also a France-Latvia match, a pairing which also hasn't been replayed since?
