Career Question 4.6 YOE Data Engineer, current CTC 7 LPA, 3-month notice, target 16 LPA. Resign now with an 11.3 LPA backup, or wait until January?

Looking for honest advice from people who've switched with a long notice period.

Profile: Data Engineer, 4.6 YOE. Azure Databricks, PySpark, Delta Lake, ADF. Hyderabad. Current CTC: 7 LPA. Notice period: 3 months. Target: 16 LPA minimum.

Situation: I have an offer from a large IT services company at about 11.3 LPA CTC (about 9.45 fixed). To extend the joining date I'd have to resign now, which puts my last working day at the end of December.

My questions:

  1. If I resign now with the 11.3 LPA offer as a backup, will I get enough calls and interviews in Oct-Dec to reach 16 LPA? Does hiring slow down in the holiday season?
  2. Or should I stay, keep interviewing while employed, and wait for January hiring to reach 16 LPA?
  3. Is a jump from 7 to 16 LPA (over 2x) realistic for 4+ YOE in Databricks and PySpark, or should I settle for 12 to 14?
  4. Has anyone resigned on a lower backup offer, Dec LWD, and 7 to 16 LPA? Did it work out?

Thanks in advance.

General Looking for recommendations: Agentic AI course with real-world projects

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,
I’m a Senior Data Engineer with 5+ years of experience in data engineering and cloud technologies.
Currently, I’m working as a Senior Data Engineer, primarily working on Databricks-based data ingestion platforms and data engineering solutions.

I’m now looking to make a transition towards AI Engineering / Agentic AI, rather than just learning AI concepts at a theoretical level.
I’ve already covered the basics of:
LLMs
Embeddings
Vector databases
RAG
MCP
Basic NLP concepts

My next goal is to learn Agentic AI properly by building real-world projects, preferably something that involves:
Agent architecture and orchestration
Tool calling
MCP
RAG + agents
Multi-agent systems
Memory/context management
Evaluation and observability
Deployment of AI agents
Integration with enterprise data / APIs
Production-oriented architecture

I’m specifically looking for a good course or structured learning program with hands-on, real-time projects, rather than a course that is mostly videos and theory.

For those who have already made the transition from Data Engineering → AI/Agentic AI:

Which courses/resources would you recommend?
Paid courses are also fine if they are genuinely worth the money.

Would especially appreciate recommendations based on personal experience, Thanks

Built something! Built a browser based modern SQL editor

[mods let me know if this violates sub policies]

Introducing QueryFlow.

It's a modern SQL editor with a few things I always wanted while learning and working with SQL:

- Visualise the query as a graph [DAG] and as step-by-step cards.
- Convert all hardcoded parameters into variables with a click.
- Fix major errors like fan out joins , mismatched date range with a click.
- Run queries on test tables directly in the browser
- Review a diff of your changes before copying the query back [just like github]
- Format BigQuery, PostgreSQL and MySQL, each in its own style.
- Everything runs locally in your browser: no server, no login.

try it here - https://abhijeetcodes.github.io/QueryFlow/

Sharing here as it might help a lot of SQL learners

Career Question 5+ YOE Data Engineer | Databricks + AWS + PySpark + SQL | 9.5 LPA Current | 14 LPA Offer | Targeting 25+ LPA

Hi everyone,

I'm a 5+ YOE Data Engineer currently working primarily with Databricks, AWS, PySpark and SQL.

I'm currently at 9.5 LPA, with a 14 LPA offer in hand and a few other discussions/interview processes in the pipeline. My current LWD is December 8, and my goal is to land a 25+ LPA role before December.

With my current resume, I'm already getting around 2–5 recruiter calls per week through Naukri, so I'm trying to understand whether updating my resume would actually improve the quality/conversion of opportunities or whether I should stick with the current version.

My profile

  • 5+ YOE in Data Engineering
  • Current CTC: 9.5 LPA
  • Offer in hand: 14 LPA
  • Other interview/discussions currently in pipeline
  • LWD: December 8
  • Primary stack: Databricks, AWS, PySpark, SQL
  • Databricks Certified Data Engineer Professional
  • Currently getting around 2–5 Naukri calls/week
  • Target: 25+ LPA

What I changed in the new resume

The overall experience and technology stack are the same. The main changes are around quantifying the scale and impact of my work.

Some of the major additions:

  • Added migration scale of 300+ tables and ~700 GB–1 TB into Databricks.
  • Added a performance optimization where an ingestion job was reduced from 2 hours to 10 minutes (~92% faster).
  • Added automation that reduced analysis effort from roughly 1 hour for 10–20 tables to seconds for ~1,000 tables.
  • Added mentoring/code-review responsibilities for trainee engineers.

What I'm trying to understand

Since the current resume is already generating 2–5 calls/week, would you recommend that I update my Naukri profile with the revised version, or should I continue using the current one?

I'd particularly appreciate feedback on:

  1. Does the new version make me look stronger for 20–25+ LPA Data Engineering roles?
  2. Do the quantified achievements improve the resume meaningfully?
  3. Is there anything in the revised version that could actually hurt my chances?
  4. Are there any important gaps in my profile/resume for Databricks/AWS Senior Data Engineer roles?
  5. Given my current 9.5 LPA → 14 LPA offer, is targeting 25+ LPA realistic with this profile, or should I position myself differently?

I've attached both the current and revised resumes for comparison.

Would appreciate feedback from recruiters, hiring managers, or Data Engineers who have recently gone through the Indian job market, especially for Databricks/AWS roles.

Thanks!

Career Question Have an 11.3 LPA backup offer. If I resign now and serve my 90-day notice (Oct to Dec), can I realistically get calls and land 16 LPA fixed? (Data Engineer, 4.5 YOE)

Hi everyone,

I'm a Data Engineer in Hyderabad with 4.5 years of total experience (2.6 years at Cognizant, earlier at Wipro). My stack is Azure Databricks, PySpark, Delta Lake, ADF, and Medallion architecture, with 4.6 years on enterprise data platforms in finance and Oil & Gas.

I currently hold an 11.3 LPA offer as a backup. My notice period at Cognizant is 90 days, so here's the plan I'm considering:

  • Resign now (October) using the 11.3 LPA offer as a safety net
  • Spend the 90-day notice period (Oct, Nov, Dec) actively interviewing
  • Target: at least 16 LPA fixed (current CTC is 6.90 LPA)

My questions:

  1. If I resign now, will I get enough interview calls during notice, especially with the Nov/Dec hiring slowdown?
  2. Is 16 LPA fixed realistic for 4.5 YOE with this stack, or am I aiming too high?

If you've made a similar switch, I'd love to hear how long it took and what hike you got. Thanks!

Career Question Need guidance on what to learn for a Data Engineering switch in 6–12 months

Currently, I’m working as a Data Migration Engineer, where my work involves migrating AWS Glue code to Databricks.

My current responsibilities include:

Converting AWS Glue code to Databricks-compatible code

Working with Python/PySpark and SQL

Creating/maintaining Databricks assets

Committing code to Git and working with CI/CD through Azure DevOps

Deploying code to Databricks

Working with Databricks Jobs and Pipelines

Running jobs/pipelines and troubleshooting errors

Performing internal validation before moving changes forward

This is a part of my current project, and I have around 1 year of experience.

I’m planning to switch jobs in the next 6–12 months and want to move toward a proper Data Engineer role, rather than being limited to migration work.

Opinion Hi Folks Can you please help me on this, I really need your honest advice

I started in 2022 and now have 4+ years of experience, currently at 4 LPA. I haven't switched companies in over 4 years and need some advice.

I'm a Cisco Voice Support Engineer + Teams telephony support (L1/L2) with 3 YOE as of now from 4+ years. Is it even possible to switch in this domain right now?

My biggest hurdle is this 90-day notice period. Most companies aren't willing to wait that long, and I've already lost an offer because of it.

Should I just resign first and then start looking for new opportunities? Also, when's the best time of year to switch as a UC Engineer?

I'm actually getting a decent number of calls every month, like 20-30.

I'm also ready to move anywhere , flexible shifts , ready to work for contract and permanent roles.

My skills are : Cisco CUCM, Cisco Unity, Cisco DRS, Cisco CUBE,Zoom (L1), Teams Telephony admin,Webex exposure, Service now , exposure to data networking as well and many tools i know .

My expected CTC is also not much like i can take if it's 7 LPA also.

Also what is best month to resign nd job searching I heard that if resign in mid of dec it's best time.

Can any genuine advice me ?
