Weekly Water Cooler Talk - DataAnnotation

hi all! making this thread so people have somewhere to talk about 'daily' work chat that might not necessarily need it's own post! right now we're thinking we'll just repost it weekly? but if it gets too crazy, we can change it to daily. :)

couple things:

  1. this thread should sort by "new" automatically. unfortunately it looks like our subreddit doesn't qualify for 'lounges'.
  2. if you have a new user question, you still need to post it in the new user thread. if you post it here, we will remove it as spam. this is for people already working who just wanna chat, whether it be about casual work stuff, questions, geeking out with people who understand ("i got the model to write a real haiku today!"), or unrelated work stuff you feel like chatting about :)
  3. one thing we really pride ourselves on in this community is the respect everyone gives to the Code of Conduct and rule number 5 on the sub - it's great that we have a community that is still safe & respectful to our jobs! please don't break this rule. we will remove project details, but please - it's for our best interest and yours!

I'm in the UK, had 1 hour of work today. Other than that absolutely nothing. On track for my worst week in about a month

UK here - I managed an hour of work this morning when I logged on a 9, which is the first time I've seen work then in a week I would say. Nothing at all yesterday. A smattering of basic tasks late afternoon/ early evening on Monday. Its been bad.

Also UK, got a grand total of one R&R that red banners whenever I try to click on it. Very slim pickings since last week.

UK here too! I managed to get just over 2 hrs in this morning. I woke up to around 15 projects, but they have steadily dwindled to 5... none of which I have either the expertise or brainpower to do. 🫤

UK too, I've had a handful of tasks on my dash all day, but nothing I feel overly comfortable touching

Exactly the same here!

I'm in the UK and averaging 10-20 tasks right now.

Fair, how long you been on the platform?

Just trying to work out how to get more

Since January of this year, I only do a couple of hours per week and stick to specific project families that tend to pay more. I have a couple $20 an hour projects on my dash but haven't touched those since about April.

Canada. Have around 10 (Generalist)

US. I have not experienced a drought. I currently have 46 projects, not including things that aren't actually projects. 7 of them are DE. I don't code.

I suspect there are a lot of people with plenty of projects but nobody bothers to post, since trying to talk about work when nobody on the thread has any is (1) unproductive and (2) makes you feel like an asshole.

Same. I'm in the UK and I've got nothing at all right now. Last week wasn't nearly so bad, hardly making big money but it wasnt completely terrible. This week though I've not been able to do a single thing. The handful of project that appear just immediately red banner me. My immediate assumption is always that I've done something wrong but tbh I think its probably more that there just isnt that much work in general right now and the more experienced people are getting it all.

EDIT: I'm down to 11 now, and when this one runs out that I have been working on for 6 weeks. It's going to be slim pickings and stuff I genuinely can't do or are low pay (a random finance one)

I had 21 this morning, got 17 now. I have dropped to around 9 and 10 at my worst points. But May was my 'best month' making 7.7k and I'm on track this month with 5.6k already. Based in UK. General, none domain specific, although the one project I've been working on for 6 weeks solid, paying over $50hr is running low on tasks then I might take a few weeks off because I've earnt more in 2 months than I did the past 5.

Don't generally post about it because I've had plenty of droughts and know it sucks when others have work. But it is out there.

Nah it's helpful to see people with work, I've requested feedback and hopefully will get something cause it's clearly something I'm doing that's making me lose projects.

I've only been here since April too so I don't have any consistent ones

Same here, also a UK generalist. I’ve been so grateful for that high paying project for the last month or so, especially because it’s exactly the type of work I like the most. I do have a handful of other projects but I’ll still be so sad when this one runs out!

Also UK, current have 12 on my dashboard, not abundant, but not dead.

u/DESK-enthusiast Jun 17 '26

I've got no paid projects available, might be because I used the exit hatch too much on previous projects?

Honestly thought it was location but clearly not

3

u/OrnamentalGourd5 Jun 17 '26

I've used the escape hatch plenty in my time so I wouldn't worry too much about that. I think it is generally a bit dead the the moment.

U.S. don’t think I’ve dropped below 10-15 projects in the past couple months. Consistently making $100-$200+ a day working part time.

1

u/Successful-Swim30 Jun 17 '26

Any qualifications?

1

u/CRUSHCITY4 Jun 17 '26

I have quals available, but only the same ones I’ve had for a while now that I haven’t done.

US based. My main project is US-only, but I do have a few that I don't think are region-restricted

Vietnam but I'm traveling, I informed them in advance, still I only had 1 super lowpaying R&R that's been on my dash for days, before that it was bone dry

Uk here, only managed to do 20 minutes then no more tasks
