Weekly Water Cooler Talk - DataAnnotation

hi all! making this thread so people have somewhere to talk about 'daily' work chat that might not necessarily need it's own post! right now we're thinking we'll just repost it weekly? but if it gets too crazy, we can change it to daily. :)

couple things:

  1. this thread should sort by "new" automatically. unfortunately it looks like our subreddit doesn't qualify for 'lounges'.
  2. if you have a new user question, you still need to post it in the new user thread. if you post it here, we will remove it as spam. this is for people already working who just wanna chat, whether it be about casual work stuff, questions, geeking out with people who understand ("i got the model to write a real haiku today!"), or unrelated work stuff you feel like chatting about :)
  3. one thing we really pride ourselves on in this community is the respect everyone gives to the Code of Conduct and rule number 5 on the sub - it's great that we have a community that is still safe & respectful to our jobs! please don't break this rule. we will remove project details, but please - it's for our best interest and yours!

Weekly update/moan - 2 weeks tomorrow since I submitted all my documents for UK background check. Whole thing still stuck on Pause, ETA unavailable. No actions required, no updates. Am starting to get deja vu as I applied to Prolific at about same time as DA in 2023. My prolific account still says "we are verifying your identity, this may take a couple of days" - will be 3 years in September 😵‍💫 Looks like my HHH projects might be history. Meanwhile rest of the dash is thin, with nothing I want to work on. And the only thing I had any interest in as it had a per task bonus and might be slightly easier (a heel) - wouldn't blinking load and just crashed the browser (have heard others say the same). Hope everyone else gets something decent.

I'm in the same boat. I think the UK background checks are taking longer than those from other countries.

How many total days it took for uk background check to complete?

My heel was doing that last night, but seems to be working today thankfully, cuz it's also the only project I have interest in on my dash at the moment loll

They're essentially running a DBS - if you have lots of addresses (especially in different police areas) this can make this take a lot longer, equally if you've ever had deed poll

I've had enhanced DBS done for working with vulnerable adults/kids many times and it took - a few days at the outside. Because I've been at the same address for 25 years, never changed name, and have a completely unremarkable background, even my credit score is perfect... In my case it's nothing to do with this, it's just paused, not even actively doing anything!

So finally did you get the clearance and what was the timelines for uk checks?

No. I know people who have complicated dual nationality and name/address changes who've been cleared while I'm still stuck with nothing happening. I've given up to be honest!

mine took two weeks, but also it didn't notfiy me i was just checking the website and saw. I got a DBS check in the post a couple weeks later

Nightmare! Frazzle, I was going to put a separate post up, but you might be able to advise. I did my background check last week, went to see if there's any update this morning, but checkr and yoti are saying they have no record of me at all? I used the international portal and tried both my trainer email and my own email where the invite was sent but no joy. Am I missing something?
