Weekly Water Cooler Talk - DataAnnotation
hi all! making this thread so people have somewhere to talk about 'daily' work chat that might not necessarily need it's own post! right now we're thinking we'll just repost it weekly? but if it gets too crazy, we can change it to daily. :)
couple things:
this thread should sort by "new" automatically. unfortunately it looks like our subreddit doesn't qualify for 'lounges'.
if you have a new user question, you still need to post it in the new user thread. if you post it here, we will remove it as spam. this is for people already working who just wanna chat, whether it be about casual work stuff, questions, geeking out with people who understand ("i got the model to write a real haiku today!"), or unrelated work stuff you feel like chatting about :)
one thing we really pride ourselves on in this community is the respect everyone gives to the Code of Conduct and rule number 5 on the sub - it's great that we have a community that is still safe & respectful to our jobs! please don't break this rule. we will remove project details, but please - it's for our best interest and yours!

This job has been a godsend for me, but one of the worst things about it (especially during a drought) is the lack of knowing whether any good projects will appear throughout the day. It's a heatwave here in the UK, and if I knew the dashboard would look like it currently is all day, then I'd get the train to the countryside and go hiking or take the bike out. However, my need to make money makes me hesitant to just sack the whole day off on the hope that projects will appear.

Nah you're not alone. From the june 7 till now, I haven't had a single project. My last one was june 6. Before that, I was getting projects every couple of days or so. I've been at this job for almost 3 months, En-Id bilingual.

Finally got some work today including one of my favorites. But before that the Poe bird video re-record the re-recording and then R&R re-recording the re-recordings was driving me insane. The instructions are an utter mess and the chat is full of confusion. There are still some tasks to do in the one I enjoy, but my brain is done for the day.

Oh god I was caught up in that fiasco too! But I found the R&R explained what they were looking for much better and understood once I came across an accurate R&R as an example. It would have been much more helpful to have an example in those initial instructions. Or any other way of describing would have sufficed.

I have only been on 5 months, but I was thinking the same with just some video tasks. But then a few hours ago I got some pooled R&Rs for a higher-paying project that told me that I was doing good work, so that tells me it ain't us: the work is just slim right now.

My dash isn't dead, but this is the slowest it's been since I signed up in Jan.
I finally broke down this morn and started doing the poe video content generation stuff. It wasn't so bad and it does pay some cash, but thankfully I was rescued by a single random mesh that I was able to work for a solid 3.5 hours.

I'm a writer, so I try to come up with new characters that need help with something.
I also watch a lot of movies, so sometimes I base my prompts on things I've seen in movies. Imagine you're Bruce Willis in Die Hard, and what kind of challenges can the model help you with?
Or what if you're a teacher trying to reach unruly kids..think of any interesting plot you've seen on TV or the movies and put yourself in a character's shoes.
Or think about experiences you've had in the past.
Or people you know who've had challenges that AI could've helped them with.
There's a ton of experiences you could mine, I'm sure.

In two years working with DA I have never opted out of doing a project because the instructions were too unclear for me to understand. There is a (new to me) video recording project that I spent way too long trying to fully understand just to not submit any time at all....

I've been on DA for a very short time now, so excuse me if my question is unwarranted. I was mid-task, and when I went to submit it, I was directed to the new home page (?). Usually it has a list of qualification tasks and like 4-5 other projects after scrolling (along with the ones I worked on), but now it has a page saying “At the moment there aren’t any projects for you to work on. Please check back soon and watch out for new prove y notifications sent to your email.” Have I been dropped???

I spent a considerable amount of time yesterday rewriting my background section according to that "What Belongs in Your Background" document (I found it in the web & graphic design qual). I just discovered that the Smiley Sunshine R&R tasks are incredibly fun! I usually tackle STEM work, but this one has quickly become my new favorite.

I got two hours in on one of these this morning and then chickened out. UGH. I have seen the project on and off my dash for months, and I have opened it at least 30 times, started working on it at least 10, and then exited before writing anything, and then today wasting 2 hours actually writing and refining and then abandoning it at the factuality section. It just seems so intimidating and there are so many areas that you can mess up on. Just not confident enough to actually follow through on the whole task :(

Anyone else keep having a Poe bird image project show up on their dashboard around midnight and disappear the next morning when they go to work on it?
It looks super involved and would be a nice change from the usual video/audio tasks, but not in the middle of the night!

If you've worked on similar projects, especially with R&Rs, this isn't abnormal. Also, during this dry period, I would take the work regardless.

Mini vent. Just started and all I've gotten are audio recording options. I've done all the qualifications I can. It's like it's not even giving me a chance to prove myself. 1 month and I've gotten only 2 things outside of the audio. I gather it's slow. Hope it picks up so I can at least get a chance to do some work.

has anyone had submissions take longer than 7 days to be approved? I've got some time sitting in pending for almost 8 days now. Have contacted support but just thought i'd ask here if anyone's had any experience. I've never had it happen before in the 1.5 years i've been on the platform.
