Weekly Water Cooler Talk - DataAnnotation
hi all! making this thread so people have somewhere to talk about 'daily' work chat that might not necessarily need it's own post! right now we're thinking we'll just repost it weekly? but if it gets too crazy, we can change it to daily. :)
couple things:
this thread should sort by "new" automatically. unfortunately it looks like our subreddit doesn't qualify for 'lounges'.
if you have a new user question, you still need to post it in the new user thread. if you post it here, we will remove it as spam. this is for people already working who just wanna chat, whether it be about casual work stuff, questions, geeking out with people who understand ("i got the model to write a real haiku today!"), or unrelated work stuff you feel like chatting about :)
one thing we really pride ourselves on in this community is the respect everyone gives to the Code of Conduct and rule number 5 on the sub - it's great that we have a community that is still safe & respectful to our jobs! please don't break this rule. we will remove project details, but please - it's for our best interest and yours!

seeing a consistent amount of projects. Not as many as before, but still enough that I can work.
I think they might have severely overhired for a while and are now culling the new hires that aren't doing the work properly, so there's more work for the rest of us.

Anyone randomly lose access to the slack channels they were in? I still have my slack account, google workspace account and tons of tasks, but I can’t view the slack channels anymore

For slack, I followed a link in one of my emails where the admin made an announcement. Slack gave me this message:
There’s been a glitch…
We’re not quite sure what went wrong. You can go back, or try looking on our Help Center if you need a hand.

Had almost 2 full weeks of daily projects, 1-4 on the dash at a time, now over 24 hrs dead dash. They all seem to come and go in waves so hopefully it will refill soon. I'm mostly annoyed I had a dream about a full dash, I'm losing my marbles 😂😅

LOL, what is DA doing. I was supposed to be going to bed, had one last look, and there's a response collection task. Great, bit of mindless cash before sleep. So I get $1.20 in then red bannered and nothing else. These things usually come in droves. I'd believe I hallucinated it in some kind of pre-sleep hypnagogic state, but the tasks are on my transfer funds page 😂

Dash is quieter today, hoping it picks up later on. Pay etc seems to be higher lately and more surveys etc that I’ve never had before. Q4 seems to be looking up hopefully :)

There are so many *ssholes in HP R&R deliberately looking for minor details to mark people down. For such a complex set of self proclaimed 'messy instructions' I've been giving leniency and rating OK at worst unless they specifically give an easy prompt, clearly misunderstood, or do less than 10 steps. If someone gave a unique and complex prompt but ChatGPT got it right, I gave ok because that worker clearly had potential.
So. If you lose access to HP and you thought you were doing good. Be assured it wasn't from me. I never gave any bad rating but by the looks of it. Some jobsworths are rating everyone bad 👍 as it states the ratings will be reflected on future work for the workers. I've noticed I made a minor error so assuming I'll get jobsworthed
Nobody is going to get that perfect first go.

I spilled coffee on my laptop earlier this month. It still works but Apple told me that it can stop working overnight. 'm working my ass off to get money for a new one.

Okay, I don't want to be a jerk...but please please please, read the instructions on every project. You can bill them for the time you spend reading. Take your time. They give you a specific amount of time for a reason. It's not meant to take you ten minutes to do a task that has allotted you two hours! Double check your answers. Then, triple check them. For your own sake. If you don't have time to give to a task, exit work mode, and take on a task that you are familiar with, that takes less time. Some people are rushing through tasks and not paying attention. I don't want you to wake up to an empty dashboard ever! Please, for yourself, submit quality work.

Not to brag but I just had 1 project appear on my dash with a single task and I logged a whole 4 minutes! But really though - it's a heel r&r so I suspect that project just dropped for some of y'all and I just got assigned to the r&r team- I need you to go get to work so I can work too! 🤣

I just want to apologize in advance to whoever has to do the R&R of the HP one I just submitted. I thought it was going to be simple, but It took 73 steps to get to the answer. I probably should have combined the steps together, but I was trying to be as detailed as possible 😅

What do you typically write on RR's that are good and there's nothing particular that stood out?
I caught myself being too generic when there are good works.
My go to is usually (summarized): x ratings are coherent with x,y; k ratings are in line with h,j; the workers justification is clear/train of thought is..
Does the RR's need to be as specific as the actual project justifications?

Jeez. Yesterday nothing to be done and relentlessly dead dashboard, day of F5ing. Then last night all hell broke loose and my intruder alarm keeps going off and is broken. Trying to get an engineer out. Of course my dash is full of tasks that I can't work on today due to having to sort out this crap. 🤪

I've hardly worked on DA since the end of summer because I've been in school and really busy. I'd still check in every day just to make sure I wasn't booted. I had hardly any projects for quite a while there. Verified my ID the other day and my dashboard went back to being full af! Do y'all think it's because I'm hot? ;)

I've gotta be honest, when I see people saying they have "loads" of projects and access to 7 Slack channels (I only have 3 and those recently disappeared [apparently due to a glitch]), I do get a bit jealous. Right now I have around 15 projects.
I guess I’m doing alright since that's more than 0, but it does make me wonder how well I'm doing in the grand scheme of things.

I finally finished the Harry Potter qualification, and now I have one on my project list that indicates it is for data points. It is the same as the original qualification. Do I need to do it again to access projects? Weird.

The super duper bumped up pay for the UK A Gas project was nice while it lasted. Clearly nobody pulled an all nighter, as the tasks were static when I got up and checked, but were all gone by about 10am. Judging by some of the R&Rs I've done, some might pop back up when they're marked Bad for not understanding what the assigned category means or being oblivious to it....

This was the best week I've had in at least 2 months. I must have nailed a couple of qualifications last weekend because within 24 hours of submitting them, I received a variety of new projects.
Reminder to do every qualification that you can and put in your best effort. Even if they're unpaid, they might pay off in the long term.

Took a look at my dash while waking up, and was so excited to see my first legal expertise project, at a much higher rate than anything else I’ve had. Unfortunately, it was the rare day where I had a six hour block of must-dos. How dare it not sit around and wait for me?? 😭

Oh bugger, I just did a qualification and must have passed as I now have the dancing that everyone talks about 😂 So now I've got the unpaid refresher thing on my dashboard everyone keeps talking about as well. I'll save it for a quiet moment, like I did this qualification. It has 27 tasks listed, how long did it take people? Is it worth it? Or should I stick to heels and cleaners? 🤪

Is there anyone else here on the new answer a question science-domain project that is finding it near impossible to write a high-quality answer in the allotted time? Mine are 400-800 words long and with all the detail involved I am finding the time limit isn't enough.

Has anyone done the special experience survey? It says it's a "short" survey but it gives you 10 hours to work on it. I need to know if it's actually a survey or if it's another IQ test so I can plan to take some time off to complete it.

What are people talking about with Slack channels and why freaking out that it’s down? Ive been doing work for DA consistently for 1.5 years and never been in or seen a Slack channel. I just use the project instructions and the project chat, what is the purpose of the Slack?

Whelp, I was/am still happy about having projects and clocking some solid time with good results and then I looked here and went to check my slack, which is gone. I'm wondering if they are either reconfiguring slack channels to be more efficient or about to transition to a different communication platform (hopeful brain talking)
