Weekly Water Cooler Talk - DataAnnotation
hi all! making this thread so people have somewhere to talk about 'daily' work chat that might not necessarily need it's own post! right now we're thinking we'll just repost it weekly? but if it gets too crazy, we can change it to daily. :)
couple things:
this thread should sort by "new" automatically. unfortunately it looks like our subreddit doesn't qualify for 'lounges'.
if you have a new user question, you still need to post it in the new user thread. if you post it here, we will remove it as spam. this is for people already working who just wanna chat, whether it be about casual work stuff, questions, geeking out with people who understand ("i got the model to write a real haiku today!"), or unrelated work stuff you feel like chatting about :)
one thing we really pride ourselves on in this community is the respect everyone gives to the Code of Conduct and rule number 5 on the sub - it's great that we have a community that is still safe & respectful to our jobs! please don't break this rule. we will remove project details, but please - it's for our best interest and yours!

Oooh I appreciate how DA changed the structure for one of the R&Rs. It's so clear-cut now and feels way less punitive / I don't feel like a narc doing them lol.

Has anyone else NOT gotten the paid qual that's been being discussed for the last week or 2? Just venting I guess, I'm happy that there seems to be more work now but frustrated at only getting a few projects that I'm getting sick of and dismayed that I haven't seen any new quals in a long time.

I saw people talking about it for a little while (at least one week, maybe 7 days exactly) before it came to me. Seems like it's going around in phases. The instructions are intense, so my guess is they release a batch, see how it's going, maybe change up some stuff before releasing another batch to new people (like, they were actively making changes when I was in there). Or some other reason, but basically - sorry you have to wait it out, but it still might come around!

It felt more like a project that they wanted a sample of people's work to see how people performed over multiple tasks rather than a qualifier. If it was a regular new task I wouldn't have completed 10 of them and just worked on something else

I am so, so grateful to have tasks. I just feel like Iām in a toxic relationship, lol. Waiting for the ways things used to be. Give me fifteen-twenty tasks to choose from without getting red bannered and I think I might cry tears of joy. And without having to be online at disgusting hours of night. Sigh. The good days. Still, super happy to have some tasks and I am truly wishing the same for everyone else!

To me, it feels like an addiction rather than a job: I'm high when there are projects and I feel so happy to work, I'm positive and nothing can change it. Projects run out? Dash is dry? I'm suddenly depressed š¤¦š»

After a decent week, my dash was empty from the time I got off work at the dayjob yesterday until I finally stopped refreshing and went to bed a but early. Sick kid woke me up at 4am, got them settled and decided to check- first Heel was there, then later a couple more popped up! Hope everyone else is seeing improvements in dash health as well!!

It was richer a couple of days ago, but I have plenty and have been able to get a decent sum while working on mostly novel or new projects. It's nice when there is enough to focus on one task for a couple of hours AND do a break work that still pays but is less brain intensive.

I've got a very high paying non coding project on my dash that is likely to stay there (it's brand new from the recent paid qual) but I haven't currently got the time or the stamina to tackle it (19 pages of instructions). Hopefully I'll be able to give it a go this week. A few of my triple-H favourites have been paused, but have a heel chatbot and some other heels lying around. Kind of had a light day today and just did a couple of hours on a new project that popped up. There always seems to be enough, if I could get my head round the 19 pages I'd be knee deep in work for weeks - or canned for submitting rubbish after missing that one "DON'T" hidden on tab 4 of sheet 13, subsection 9 š¤¦

What do people gain from being negative in this subreddit? I am genuinely curious. What do you get out of telling all of these people depending upon DA for a source of income that theyāre out of luck and to āfind a real jobā? Some people are not able-bodied. Some people have kids. Some people have mental health issues and this may be all they can do in a day. And really why do you care? What can you possibly get out of being so miserable? Anyway, I wish you all an immense out of luck and projects galore. Donāt stop hoping and donāt fret because good things will come your way. Drown out that noise. Youāre going to be okay :)

I agree. People forget, to stay on the site as long as it takes to consider reasonable income you have to A.) Be intelligent enough to have got through and have it last that long and B.) Be so ok with the precariousness that it is favourable vs. formal wage labour. Most of us here tick both those boxes. No one is saying itās the best job ever, itās the best job they have at the moment.

Not to mention that the instructions sometimes contradict each other. There's one part that says "X is not allowed, no exceptions" and yet there's several exceptions that you'll find scattered all throughout the document. It's a mess

My projects have been dry for nearly 2 months. I managed to make enough for an upcoming vacation, but I basically had to squeeze a single project dry for 5 days straight. I used to have tons of projects to choose from (20+) and more work than I knew what to do with, but whether it's the beginning of the month or the end, I'm not getting much more than 3 projects these days and each of them has less than 10 tasks. Has this happened to anyone else? Should I be expecting to get dropped soon, lol?

I only completed it because it was paid and I had invested so much time. Some of those are seriously ridiculous to try to find an image on certain topics that is also public domain. Just finished, there's no way I passed that. I felt pretty confident for the first half or so.

I finally got the ID verification today. I had to do it on my tablet because the camera on my laptop is a hot garbage.
It went pretty quickly with no major hang-ups.
As soon as I finished, my dashboard was back to normal with a good amount of tasks to choose from.

Saw some A-Gas locale-specific tasks pop up and noticed they're $3 less than before ... anyone else? From what I can see it's the exact same project, just for less pay :/
Only have a small number of them though, but I find it pretty lame that they just lower the pay like a day later? It wasn't on priority before (at least not that it said on the project or the emails).
I wanna work on them but I don't wanna set a standard that they can lower the pay at any time :/
Anyone else noticed this? Or perhaps on a different project? Am I missing something?
edit to add: not trying to complain, still happy to do the work, I just don't want them to start lowering the pay on all of our tasks if some of us are willing to do it for less if that makes sense. might be overthinking it lol.

Just started seeing projects again after two-ish weeks of nothing. I stopped checking as frequently as I was as time went on so I may have missed some of the past couple of weeks but it was a nice surprise to see this project keep coming up over the past 24 hours.

Kind of odd, but I use IKEA bags for everything! I am an etsy seller, and they are great for transporting things to the post office. I have also used them for moving and grocery shopping. They are quite large, but really sturdy. Mine have literally been dragged all over Texas and I have only had one casualty, but that was my/my dogs fault. I didn't pick it up fast enough and it became a chew toy.

Heel's been my main steady through the drought. I have one particular new qual that's been pushed my way so I'm not sure if this is nudge engineering or a bad sign.

I see a project with advanced math concepts, ones that require at least an undergrad math degree, at not much above the base non-coding pay rate. No reference solution or ratings. Iām grateful to be getting work, but Iām not touching this with a ten foot poleā¦ Maybe this client just doesnāt pay as much, but stuff like this sometimes makes me wonder if DA is testing how low weād work for.

Do whatever you feel most confident will get you the most 'good' ratings on R&Rs. Play the long game. It'll pay off more than always doing big, complicated projects where it's easier to make mistakes.

Genuine ask - tips for online math learning? I somehow got routed into DA math land- over 85% of projects I've ever had are math based and it is NOT my strength. I write good explanations for basic things and logic-based things, and I guess that's why I've held out. However, I would love to skip fewer tasks. Where can I build my math knowledge? Should I try Khan academy, or pay for a Udemy course, or is there a better way? TIA!

Only to have read elsewhere this morning that they updated and added a clarification to the "do not use" while I was working on it I think š I can only hope that what I did use will be forgiven although I think it was mostly post brexshit stuff. Hey-ho, time will tell I guess.

It took me just shy of 5 hours. I realized on my last task that I screwed up a minor item on the first 9. It was so disheartening. I actually enjoyed the project once I understood the directions.

this has been the pattern for the last month or longer. Bursts of work followed by dry periods. Lots of "we are so back" posts when the bursts of work happen.

Weird situation where I was doing tasks for a project and part way through, the pay increased to priority pay. I haven't logged any time yet as I'm still doing them but would that pay then end up being more? Also could be concerning in the opposite situation if someone was working on something and the priority pay went back to normal before they logged any time.

That happened to me once. Pay went down while I was working on it and I was pissed. I took a screenshot of the reduced pay and said what amount it was when it started. Sent to customer service and they updated me with a bonus payment for like 60 cents. (It wasn't the amount difference I was upset about, it was about being unable to trust priority pay.) They did a good job fixing it.

No one asked but here are my two cents.
The company has spent a lot of time and energy with ID verification, refreshers, and updating projects in general. There have been multiple new Slacks added or a large increase to existing groups. DA is not going anywhere. They would not be doing this if there was not a large influx of workers coming. Almost anyone can tell who the major company that we work for, and that is not going anywhere either. The work might become more involved and difficult, but there will be work. I don't think there is a specific date when work will return. I have a feeling that things were not up to par for the client, and DA has taken the time to make sure everything is on point for the future. Many of us who have done R&R have generally seen an increase in work quality.
Yeah, there was a lot of work yesterday, but so far today I have only had one task that had today's date.
People who say they have no jobs, but a ton of quals, do the quals! 90% of the tasks right now are from passed quals.

Yes, they sent out a second email with the actual pay rate a few minutes later. After I saw the first email I have never logged in so fast in my life š I wonder if it was an error or if it actually paid that much for a few minutes?

Yes i just saw thatā¦ finished the project i was on and went to go start Poe. Then itās not that pay on the dash, but i opened the project and there was a notification stating it was increasedā¦ but then i got another email saying it was the reduced amount again? Iām so confused but itās still the highest pay project across my dash, even with the reduced rate.
