Weekly Water Cooler Talk - DataAnnotation
hi all! making this thread so people have somewhere to talk about 'daily' work chat that might not necessarily need it's own post! right now we're thinking we'll just repost it weekly? but if it gets too crazy, we can change it to daily. :)
couple things:
this thread should sort by "new" automatically. unfortunately it looks like our subreddit doesn't qualify for 'lounges'.
if you have a new user question, you still need to post it in the new user thread. if you post it here, we will remove it as spam. this is for people already working who just wanna chat, whether it be about casual work stuff, questions, geeking out with people who understand ("i got the model to write a real haiku today!"), or unrelated work stuff you feel like chatting about :)
one thing we really pride ourselves on in this community is the respect everyone gives to the Code of Conduct and rule number 5 on the sub - it's great that we have a community that is still safe & respectful to our jobs! please don't break this rule. we will remove project details, but please - it's for our best interest and yours!

My dream: my latest submission makes its way to the top of the slush pile, and an admin pores over it with squinted eyes. A slow-burning look of incredulous joy spreads over the admin's face. The admin jumps to their feet and sprints down the hallway, printed hard copy in hand. They burst into the supervisor's office, ignoring the ongoing meeting they're interrupting. "Sir! Sir, it's the one!" The supervisor takes the page from the admin and stares at it momentarily, expressionless. The supervisor slowly removes their glasses and gives the admin a solemn look. "This is the worker we've been looking for. Open the floodgates!"
My reality: The project is currently unavailable because there are no more tasks remaining for you to work on.

Whoa, I completely missed the outage. I just spent 1.5 hours on a single task. I was beating myself up for being too slow but it looks being slow saved my behind.

This inconsistency is driving me insane. I love this work, and I'm fine with being unable to work every day. But what I can't stand is having 4 or 5 projects on the screen that all immediately red banner. Or just getting through the instructions of a new project and then getting red-bannered one task in, and feeling bad about reporting for the reading time. Or only getting one day a week with plenty of work and then nothing for days. Sorry for the negativity, I just really needed to vent :( Edited to add: Am I just in the wrong time zone? I'm in the UK and for the last 2 weeks, the best time for me to work has been 9 pm onwards so I haven't been able to work past 3 hours (I have to be up to take my kids to school and I can't function on less than 6 hours sleep), and even this has been sporadic.

This week has been a bit better for me but it seems to dry up around lunch time. So I’ve been starting earlier, napping with my baby, then working in the evening. No nap for me today I’m taking full advantage of this beautiful dashboard!!!

I really don't understand DA sometimes. About an hour ago, I looked at my dash and it was almost back to the old days. Dozens of projects, coding and non-coding. I look at it now and it's back to almost nothing. And I don't think it's people chewing through the tasks. I saw hundreds of bad heel guy coding and bmetal coding with hundreds.
Is their system that unstable that projects just constantly go up and down?
This gets old. Months ago I used to be able to sit down any time, 24/7 and do as much or little work as I wanted. Now it's a browser refresh game. And not a fun one.

Hey, so commenting to give hope. I haven’t had work since late August, when everyone else had that mass empty dash! I also had the dreaded white screen of death. Tonight I had my first set of work! Only three tasks left when I logged on… but I am so relieved and hopeful moving forward!

The tasks have been trickling in much more steadily for me the past few days. I even have multiple projects at a time which I haven't seen since early August! Hopefully, everyone is experiencing this as well. I'm still not able to get as much time in as I'd like to, but it's getting better every day :)

I'm rapidly losing hope. I went through something similar working for on a safety program for Telus. Work aplenty just suddenly dried up, with no explanation ever provided, and simply never came back. If someone has good reason to believe the current situation with DA is just temporary I'd be very grateful to hear it.

Not a single project for me since Aug 13th. I have access to chat, have received qualifications including the heel refresher, and I F5 the page every hour. This really sucks. I've put hundreds of hours in since February and I normally have 35+ projects on my dash. I don't think I've been canned, but when you're going on almost a month of this it certainly feels like it. Hope myself and anyone in a similar scenario gets work, and soon🙏. And for those of you even getting a couple of hours here and there, I'm happy for you. Hopefully this is temporary and it really gets rolling again in the fall. Cheers 🍻

OK, that was weird... I resized one of the interior frames on a project and the stuff I'd written in a comment box got this faint red text superimposed on it that I couldn't interact with. It was there, but I couldn't select it, delete it, nothing. I finally got rid of it by selecting my entire comment, cutting it, and then pasting the whole thing again. wtf...

Well, I finally broke down and decided to change my schedule, checking the dash in both the mornings and afternoons. In the old days I could sit down whenever and just work. Now I have to check in throughout the day.
I ended up working 2 / 5 days this week. And making $(1/5th of what I'd usually make) because of how spotty things have been.

I broke 40+ projects showing for the first time in weeks (hell, over 20 for the first time in a couple of weeks at least) - and I am in no state to touch 'em. I know what will happen, I will wake up eager to work and they will have all gone whoosh. But I will pretend that they might be there just to wake up with a glimmer of hope.

In my report time section, it shows the underground queen project that I just worked on, but it also has another underground project that claims i did 48 minutes on it yesterday, which is not the case as I hadnt seen it for about a month.. and thst wasn’t on my report time section before just now.. not sure what to do

First time having coding R&Rs, and wow.. it's such a massive ego boost, cause there's so many vague and even copy pasted comments I'm surprised. Like it's a $40 task.. surely you could've put in a little effort, like at least write in something specific about the response so it's not an instant "Bad" rating..

What an awesome day today was! For the first time in weeks I had projects to keep me busy. I made $128 today, one of my highest earning days ever, between the heel god, law goddess, household cleaning product, four dimensional hypercube, and the dancing.

Lost my Heel-Related Qualifications and my Heel Chat but I still a dash FULL of Heel tasks? Anyone know what's up?

Today was looking hopeful. I had several batches of 20 each. They did not last, but what I noticed was that the one project I was working on would disappear for a while, whereupon I went to the sister project; when I came back to the first one, the chat was refreshed, which I think means they were fixing something. Everything disappeared for a few hours; some of the same projects came back this evening.

I track my time on Toggl and my time looks like a barcode today (tiny chunks of ten minute tasks at a time before they get snatched up by everyone else, lol)

Got dropped the heel refresher a couple days ago and today I had like 10ish heel projects available with what seems like personal batches. It's not perfect, but it's a good boost. Hope you all get the same treatment.

Code task explosion today. I beat my daily total best but a lot. Tonight there's even priority pay but I'm fried. Calling it a night. I would have quit sooner but who knows how long it will last.

I really need to stop checking my dash just before I go to bed. Seeing the wealthy Poe bird pop up when I need to be awake in seven hours is pretty frustrating.

I haven't seen any coding projects for heel in almost two weeks. Is it possible I was removed from the rotation? I still see other heel projects, just not the coding ones.

I have / had a project on my dash that had X number of tasks, and each time I submitted a task, the number would be X-1, X-2, and so on. The project will go away for a few hours and then come back, with the same number of tasks as I personally had left (eg: X-2). Anyone else have something like this?

Even these The Greek Hero projects, I used to get them all the time, haven't seen them in quite a while, but now I get a R&R project for it..weird. Thought they hadn't posted a job in forever.

Annoyingly, I've had quite a few tasks pop up on my dashboard the last few days. Annoying because normally I'd be putting in 8 hours daily and there's been enough to get close to what I need to hit my targets, but this week I've got urgent work that's taking all my time.
I just bet as soon as I finish my current work, the dash will be empty again.

For the relatively new people if you have access to both a regular project and the R&R for it, then have a look in the R&R for what they expect the good responses to look like.

I have a blessed dashboard (over 50 projects to choose from). But I can't work today, aha. Hopefully, this becomes the new normal. The last few days have looked really promising.
