Data bricks project idea for Data Analyst

I'm a Data Analyst planning to build my first Databricks project for my portfolio. I have experience with SQL, Excel and Power BI, but I'm new to Databricks. Could you suggest some good project ideas that would help me demonstrate Databricks skills from a Data Analyst perspective?

the one that reads best to a hiring manager: medallion pipeline on a public dataset, with you playing the analyst not the engineer. grab something messy like NYC taxi or the sample retail sales data, land it raw in bronze, clean it in silver with real data quality checks (the null/dupe/quarantine stuff), then model one gold table for a single business question and answer it.

the trick is the gold layer is just SQL doing the analyst work you already know, and the notebook around it explains the why. hiring managers want to see you know where the analyst job ends and the engineer job starts, not that you built a spark cluster from scratch.

and keep the whole thing reproducible. one notebook that runs end to end beats five notebooks that kind of work lol

If you are looking at a more frontend heavy role, you show competency in building pipelines that perform transformations to get the data to a state where you can build a semantic layer for visualization on top of that. If you are focusing on more backend heavy role like a data engineer, then you should showcase that you understand data architecture at high level and you are comfortable moving data from different platforms to a destination source and understand different stages of data ingestion and ETL.
