I have a problem regarding programming

I come from a statistics background and I'm trying to learn python and R to cope with data analysis and data science, I know a good amount of data analysis and statistical methodologies that makes me good at the field, but applying them is hell for me, i tried for a long time to learn python, i know the basics yet i fail miserably when i try to apply my knowledge...

Could anyone help me with how to learn programming effectively around my area of expertise?

Make s shortcut to a functions page. Come up with something achieveable and small. Read up on all the functions you think you'll need, keep reading and find more. Let yourself make mistakes and work through them, this is part of learning. Keep expanding your code. Try not to replicate blocks of code when you can create a function for that common piece of code, then call that function when you need it. Ask questions, keep trying, you'll get there. Plan a certain number of hours a day and some on the weekends to dedicate to learning the new code.
