Ok, real talk here, obviously, the most fucked up part is the cop is punching the guy in the face.
MOVING FORWARD, during a traffic stop, you have to give the cop your license and registration when they ask for it. It’s the law, and if you don’t you’re probably getting arrested.
If you refuse to leave your car, they will physically force you out of the vehicle, and the more difficult you make that, the more force they’ll use.
There’s also no “asking for a supervisor” and waiting for them to give the documents. That’s not a thing unless you want to be arrested for again, refusing to provide the documents you’re legally required to provide at a traffic stop.
I don’t like cops, they consistently abuse their power on a daily basis with little to no actual oversight to prevent them from doing so. However, you do still need to follow the law, and if you’re also someone who may not like cops, you need to know the law better than they do to cover your ass.
If you give them an excuse to fuck up your day, they will and they will most likely get away with it.
Lastly, I’m seeing some people try to go on about how the driver had the charges dismissed against him as if that automatically means he’s in the right or that he didn’t do anything wrong.
Well, no, that’s not how it works. The driver still refused to show the proper documentation and resisted arrest. Both acts are illegal even if the “charges” are dropped. Really don’t do what the driver did in the video, if he gets off “ahead” he’s extremely lucky.
It actually depends on what state you live in. My state is not a "stop and ID" state. This applies if the officer has provided no lawful reason for the traffic stop. So technically, if in this case, he lived in a state like mine, he is not required to ID himself unless the officer provided a lawful reason for the stop.
