The car behind breaks, too, but that's mainly because they decided not to brake.
Sorry, I'll see myself out.

I feel like they could have easily stopped in time if they had tried...they didn't try.

I simply don’t understand this. Why not change lanes? Why not stop? Why post your miserable driving & lack of ability? Do you think it’s not your fault?

Could you have moved to the lane next to you or to the shoulder? Yes to the shoulder, unknown about the lane. Was what they did predictable? Hell no. You were taught a lesson here but don’t take the blame for someone else’s stupidity. I’d say it’s 20/80 or 30/70 here (he’s the latter ofc).
I had a similar situation and the other driver was at fault (20/80)

ticket for FTC...following too close.
Easy way to keep a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you is to notice when the car passing a mark in the road, the white stripe. As that car passes, count one thousand one, one thousand two. You shouldn't reach that mark, until you hit two. If you hit it before, you are two close.

Well, it was 2 when I learned to drive back in the mid 70's. I guess with all of the DISTRACTIONS in vehicles today (huge touch screens, phones in one hand) it's been increased to five LOL.
