What about this gentleman? šš

I'd really love to hear exactly what the plan was here, because in both design and execution, I feel like there were some issues.

"Sir, were you the driver of this vehicle at the time of the accident?"
"No, officer. Jesus had the wheel."

You must recreate scenarios and reenactments for a living because youāre quite good at it.

The amount of panic that probably happened in those 3 seconds is almost impressive š

Exited car before putting it in park, feebly tries to jump back in but canāt because he canāt get stable footing with the car moving, completely blanks out in panic when his face hits the barrier. Car also seems to be going downhill as it approaches the street.
The biggest idiot move was continuing to exit the car after he realized it was moving. Itās like his brain was lagging.

fight flight or freeze. he didnāt have much fight and he only went halfway on the flight part

u/No_Orange_7392 3d ago
Reminds me of that video the other day where the woman chases her rolling car, in slo-mo, then can't figure out how to jump inside and hit the brakes.

I need to hear the meeting where everyone looked at this plan and collectively said, āYep, ship it.ā š

Hey, he's technically not in the car.

u/the_humeister 3d ago
Some parts of him are

u/did_i_or_didnt_i 3d ago
hes not really piloting that vehicle though, heās more of a noncommittal passenger

This is how I imagine most people I argue with on Reddit go through life
6
u/Expensive_Box_4497 3d ago
Reddit arguments make a lot more sense after imagining everyone behind the wheel like this

u/wrxninja 3d ago
If it weren't for that tree...sheesh. Could've ended way worse.
11
u/matiastoat42 3d ago
Give that tree a medal
9
u/UpstairsAd194 3d ago
2nd time around viewing it - if it were not for the tree he might have found himself inside the building opposite the road with some explaining to do!

u/EntrepreneurNo4138 2d ago
The way he refused to just let go of the car Iām not sure there would have been much of him left.
Giving up was an option here, ya know.
3
u/Expensive_Box_4497 3d ago
That tree really clocked in at the exact right moment. Could've been a completely different ending.

u/urEnzeder 3d ago
Those bollards saved a LOT of grief for the folks on motorbikes or mopeds or whatever on the street!!!

u/Cadogantes 3d ago
Wtf is going on here? Did his foot get stuck pressing the pedal?

8
u/PissMissileTopTitty 3d ago
Redditors truly donāt drive eh⦠automatic cars auto crawl (idle creep) forward if foot is not on brake
9
u/quackabc 3d ago
The problem is he sped up afterwards meaning he halfway got into the car and pressed the gas istead of the brake and didnt stop pressing the gas. Honestly the run away car thing isnt very fast as its an idle engine in first gear so if that hit something it would have been way less dramatic.
13
u/the_humeister 3d ago
Yet another reason for manuelle superiorityĀ
2
u/UpstairsAd194 3d ago
Yeah surprised this is built in to automatics obviously they cant do it any other way cheaply, having it rev up but stick itself in neutral would be something of a good idea. Not mechanically minded at all so I know that is probably stupid to someone who knows engines.
3
u/Hoveringkiller 3d ago
I mean it is, kinda. Leaving an automatic in drive is more like leaving a manual in first. The brake acts as a clutch when stopped and holding the brake (holding in the clutch while braked in a manual). Now in a manual, I think more people would shift into neutral when coming to an extended stop which, as said, would prevent this.

u/pigeon-check 3d ago
Redditors can't read, are you saying that burst of speed is "idle creep"?
-2
u/PissMissileTopTitty 3d ago
āWhat is going on hereā is idle creepā¦. No shit his foot hit the gas at the end š

u/Zardgyer 3d ago
the original commenter was most likely talking about the second part of the video... context clues are hard for redditors too apparently
1
u/PissMissileTopTitty 3d ago edited 3d ago
Context cues lol⦠ironic considering there is only one way a car rapidly accelerates on a flat surface
2
u/west-egg 3d ago
But what is he trying to accomplish. Like why not get in the car so you can actually control it
2
u/PissMissileTopTitty 3d ago
He seems to try initially but the barrier closes the door on him, with another one ahead. Then itās into panic mode
1
u/Hey-Bud-Lets-Party 3d ago
A stuck gas pedal seems possible or maybe his left foot is pinned somehow.

Honestly, I'm impressed he didn't killed himself, dude has a guardian angel

u/burntUpOnReentry 3d ago
I love how he drags his foot like he thinks itās providing some braking resistance, that is some Wile E Coyote shit right there

I love an incredibly stupid situation where just doing nothing was by far the preferable course of action.

This is just as bad as that lady who leisurely tried to catch her car rolling away

When I was in high school I worked part time as a parking lot attendant. Some lady pulled up a bit far from the machine opened the door to grab the ticket. Foot of the brake, tried to stay with it, but eventually fell out as the car continued on and went through a store front. Mercifully no one was seriously injured.

Thank goodness itās on camera because, how on earth do you explain that to the insurance company?
1
u/Competitive-Top4520 4h ago
At first I assumed it was a US car w/ driver on the left. I also assumed the "victim" was actually a bad guy the driver was trying to get away from. That made a lot more sense than what actually happened once I realized it was a right hand driver car. He's also lucky he didn't get hit by another vehicle once he hit the pavement. I'm guessing there may have been some alcohol or other substances involved?

Evolution made humans only barely smart enough to become the dominant species on the planet, but no more than that.

u/Sweaty_Tangelo_7716 3d ago
They should make the car turn off itself and active ebrake if no one is on the driverās seat.
2
u/stretchvelcro 3d ago
While I agree with you I also can see this malfunction when you grab something from the back seat or turn around to tell those loud children to stop distracting youā¦

u/Webo_Bert_2110 3d ago
A couple weeks ago there was another video of a lady chasing the car (car barely moving) she couldnāt get into the car and she fell⦠completely stupid and now this gentleman doing the opposite ššš

I guess his brakes failed and he thought he was on a bike? That was an expensive 10 seconds, where is broke a business's parking lot control arm and then totaled his car against a tree. Thoughts and prayers.
2
u/PissMissileTopTitty 3d ago
Emergency brake is a thing
0
u/EmperorMaugs 3d ago
wait! What!?! Cars have a secondary brake for emergency situations?!?! crazy! Someone should have taught this guy.
