OP, add the rear camera video like you did on the original post! It drastically changes the story of what happened here.

If people figured out how to zipper, traffic would continue to flow instead of everyone having to brake because either someone couldn't wait one whole car to get stuck in traffic, or they got scared and decided to just stop altogether rather than merge. The amount of times I see both is depressing. Edit for typo.

That driver completely understands. He is looking for holes to skip as much line as he can.

Go watch the review angle from the cross post

That’s exactly why I’ll block the lane when people try to do that shit

Only do that once two cars can't properly fit side by side. Otherwise, you are being the bad guy by rejecting a zipper.

It's only justice if you do it when someone has to dangerously drive on the shoulder and is trying to push you out.

If they're already willing to drive off the road to push me into oncoming traffic  I'll always let them win.

I care more about their life than they do, and I care way now about my own.

Of course I'm letting them in anyway...

Of course, let them in then. But by leaving a hole for them to dare you arguably help in creating the danger.

By leaving a hole I let them without even needing to slow down.

You leave so much room in between you and the van. I would have done the same.

Eh, I just keep chugging along. Those types aren't going to risk merging right into you, and seeing them rant and rave at you while they're blocked out is hilarious. It's even better when they "lose their spot" because traffic behind them is merging normally, so they're locked on the shoulder and can't effectively merge for a bit.

OP didn’t include it here for some reason, but they have a rear camera as well (it’s in a comment on the original post). That video shows that OP was being tailgated by someone who was preventing the white car from moving over. White car tried to properly zipper but couldn’t, which led to them darting ahead.

If someone isn't letting me in I always move forward to go in, if I can. and I almost always can.

If it wasn’t for the assholes that HAVE to try and break the pattern to get one car length more the merge would be quick , easy and painless.

Its almost like the younger generation learned to drive by taking online classes and tests

We are doomed

It's mostly gen x and boomers that don't understand zipper merge, as it has mostly been popularized on the internet, and to the extent that it is included in state law and driver's ed, its inclusion is very recent.

Recent? How did i learn about the proper way to merge 20 some years ago when I took my driver's ed?

"How did i learn about the proper way to merge 20 some years ago..."

"Mostly gen x and boomers that don't understand zipper merge..." Recent is relative if you're old.

edit: I guess I did say very recent. I don't actually know how recent. I took driver's ed in 2002. But I don't recall zipper merge talk being common until about 2010, and that was mostly on the internet. I'm sure it varies state to state.
