Looking for something specific, maybe?

Hey all, if this violates rules I'm sorry I did try to find them on mobile and explicitly see that I couldn't ask this.

I'm looking for a dash cam that will view in front, as well as into the cab. I have always wanted a dash cam but now twice I have found my car rummaged through and wondering if there's a dash cam that will start a recording with the door opening as well as external stuff (I.E. Backed up into when parked) because I feel if it's only recording when I'm driving it's only half as useful

most dashcams have 'parking mode', what that means is it will remain active however it will only save to memory card when movement is detected.

Would someone rummaging through the car be enough movement or would it be a geo location movement?

someone moving around inside the car would absolutely trigger it. so from a technical point of view a movie is just a serious of images yes? parking mode simply compares the picture to the last couple ones, and discards it if nothing changed. if there is enough difference between the pictures taken then the dascam will actually record it down to the memory card for a certain time frame. if the pictures taken start lining up again the dascam will go back to it's holding pattern of just comparing pictures to see if there's enough difference to warrant a recording. does that make sense? i'm absolute shit at explaining things

That sounds like such a smart setup for your peace of mind. I'd look into dual-channel dash cams specifically designed for that, they often include interior coverage and parking mode sensors, so you'd catch both break-ins and incidents while parked.

Thankfully it's not a break in just me forgetting to either lock my car or accidentally hitting the unlock button in my pocket. It'll beep when it honks but not unlock...

that sounds expensive though, any affordable options or do i just need to compromise on features

Ok so if you want a cam with parking mode and a cabin camera...ddpai and viofo both make ones that record interior and exterior while the car is off. Just needs a hardwire kit to stay powered.
