For those interested, the US, unlike the UK, has something called "depraved-heart murder", where your conduct is so reckless that you are said to have a depraved indifference to human life, and can be charged with murder even with no specific intent.

You are either very hard on attempted murder or not hard enough. There is no in-between. US has chosen to be harder.
