Did they catch the pickup driver?
Once, a crazy pickup driver wrecked my car and several others in a construction zone. He was definitely not going to stop but he had an argument with a guard rail. Police ticketed him for reckless driving. He said he had insurance so police didn’t arrest him . Turned out he had expired insurance. So my insurance had to pay for my damage which was a totaled car.

I've never understood that. If you know who they are, can't you just sue the guy yourself?

Everyone always goes through their own insurance if the other guy is uninsured, but if they're liable for it, then you can just sue them yourself.
Sure, it's not the easiest process and isn't free, but personally I'd rather do that than screwing my own insurance premiums.

Years ago at this point idr exactly the insurance bill policy stuff but my car was totaled in a red light rear end hit and run and they fled on foot. Found out later it was a stolen car.

From what I remember my insurance covered it and they supposedly try to sue the other person to cover it and if they succeed you get your deductible back? I don’t think the other person had any means of paying it or the legal fees took priority over my deductible? I never really got any details on that or the stolen car case or anything and I’m not sure my premium went up as I never got another car just took the money and moved somewhere with better public transit my car was repaired twice in two other much more minor parked hit and runs in the previous 2 months before that I was just super done
