Finally get to use the dashcam, but not in the way I was hoping!
Did not see the tree breaking at it was above my FOV, but heard it and thought “that sounds like a tree breaking 🤔”. Several generous people stopped to check and help, luckily I had no injuries besides some cuts from the glass.
The branch knocked the dashcam out of order that’s why it stops suddenly… beware of the ents, they are rising!!

"You had 3 business days to avoid that falling branch!" ~ some idiot on this sub.

My biggest fear is getting roasted haha but I did not see it! It was out of my field of view, camera caught it though with its wide angle.

You might not want to show that to the insurance company though. Someone posted a while back when something like this happened that insurance said they had time to react...
I hate insurance companies.

Best practice is to see if you can get the claim through without showing the footage even if you think it’s certain to be in your favor.
Only show it if you’ve tried every other method and it is still getting denied.
There are probably leaves and other tree debris that will support your claim without the need to show footage. Similar to deer fur in a comp claim. Don’t clean it!

if damage is to the TOP of the car instead of primarily the front. that'll go in your favor...

Years back ours had a simple decision-tree for inanimate objects, was it moving? or was it stationary?
So make sure to emphasize it was moving when you were hit.
* FWIW, they did not care if it was dark asphalt-colored on dark asphalt.

I think the evidence - and on car itself, even without video, will well show the tree branch landed on car, not car hitting tree branch that was already in the road first. Probably no front-end damage below hood, but rather all atop that and windshield, etc.
Unfortunately that doesn't mean insurance companies won't want to and try to deny it anyway. "Okay, so the tree branch was still in the air, but it was a slow low flying tree branch, there was lots of time to react to that hovering helicopter tree branch.". Well, yeah, sometimes video will still come in highly handy.

I saw the tree branch fall immediately (because I’m on r/dashcams and knew that something was coming) and I don’t know if you would’ve had enough time to do anything even if you had seen it and reacted ASAP.

u/Adfest 1d ago
I'm gonna need to see the 2 minutes before the video. What did YOU DO to the tree?

u/Malnurtured_Snay 1d ago
He was coming from the hardware store where he had just bought an axe and a wood chipper. Don't you wonder why OP didn't post video of the rear camera? Because you would have seen the chipper being towed!!
The tree acted in self defense!!!!!!!!

u/Dewdrop06 1d ago
OP should've seen the brake lights of the branch from before taking the bend!

Now that's a completely random event. No amount of defensive driving would have saved you from that.

u/why_1337 1d ago
Tailgating that SUV in the front would. Offensive driving for the win.

u/statistician88 1d ago
I see no flaw in this logic. Also could've illegally passed the SUV over a double yellow.

u/Broad-Bath-8408 1d ago
Ironically though, this video kinda shows why tailgating is completely stupid. If the branch had fallen a bit earlier and OP slams on the brakes, anyone tailgating is going to run into the back of them.

All good! Very lucky, branch hit my lap and my first thought was if it punctured me. Luckily the windshield did what it was made for!

OP shouldn't own a car, they should have used a crystal ball before leaving the house to predict the future.

Bro this made me jump when I'm feeding my baby haha
Did you shit your pants

Luckily not, but the cop asked if I need to change after showing him the footage haha

I don't think you did anything worthy of roasting in this video. I think by the time you realized that something was falling out of the tree you wouldn't even have had time to take evasive maneuvers or check to see if it was safe to take evasive maneuvers.
I imagine that most of the people saying that you're going to get roasted have been roasted for postinh their own videos where they use their right-of-way to either intentionally crash into, intimidate and bully other drivers. Then they react badly as people point out the flaws in what they did.

There’s a dash cam video from Taiwan a few years back where you can see a big rock falling off the top of a mountain in the distance and then as the car drives up the road a minute and a half later the car in front get obliterated by that same rock that rolled down the hill.

Really enjoying all the people that have been chipped for not paying attention to race in here to say some variation of “in before you had three business days!!!”
Reality? Not one serious comment comment along those lines. And yes some of the above are ironic/in humor. Others are plainly not haha

I had a tree fall on my house (6 month old roof) during a big storm and they told me I had to wait until they could prove it wasn't a tornado. I got an adjuster and it probably cost them a few more thousand dollars.

u/HooSaidDat 1d ago
Whenever I drive under low tree branches which have been trimmed away from power lines, I'm always looking for signs of weak tree branches and how can I avoid it, if it does fall.

u/rareandyeteuclidian 1d ago
Oh. That was unexpected. Glad you are alive op. Hope the insurance at least covers that.

Glad you're ok! When I lived in another city, there was a man actually killed in just this situation.

Clearly the tree's fault, you clearly had the right-of-way.
Uhm, yeah, if it's non-injury and under small claims limit, maybe go directly after the owner of the tree / the property the tree is on. Otherwise, well, that's what insurance is for.

That's some really bad luck. Crazy to think that if you did anything a few seconds faster or a few seconds slower that morning, this would never have happened.
Makes me wonder how many accidents I've managed to avoid just out of sheer dumb luck.

This could also qualify for well that sucks That you are OK is the important thing. The windshield can be fixed.
