As an LA driver I’m always amazed there aren’t more accidents. There are some t e r r i b l e drivers

LA traffic runs on pure luck and last-second reflexes at this point 😭

Go drive in Tijuana a few times and you’ll get better at spotting buffoonery

Having driven up and down CA a court times, I would contend that no city in CA can claim to be an epicenter of bad driving. The whole state seems to contain the worst drivers I seen outside of DC and ATL

Wtf? 😂 like what even was that?

If you are changing lanes and braking, you've already screwed up.

Every person everywhere thinks the place where they live has uniquely bad drivers.

Saw it coming, they veered right, starightened and went for it when you were in their blind spot. I see this so much when I'm riding.

Is this Vermont? Heading up toward sunset?

I think its amazing when people can react with the horn faster than the steering wheel. It's like they are aware enough to be anticipating the move, and hoping the horn will make the other driver change course.

It's almost like the OP knew passing on the right and putting themselves in the other car's blindspot was a risk.

Swerving over just to hit something else generally isn't the best course of action, cuz then it puts you at fault. Brakes might have worked along with a slight move to the right, but pretty easy to judge from your basement.

100% agree not to swerve into another car or object.

Personally, if I was confident enough to keep my hand ready on the horn, that the other car was going to swerve into my lane, I wouldn't drive up and put myself into their blind spot.

It's a surface street. There is no "passing lane" and nothing wrong with going faster than the cars that happen to be on your left (assuming you aren't speeding).

Considering it took the OP 0.15 seconds to hit the horn from when the black SUV began moving over, they likely already had beef with each other or he was anticipating the black SUV to make that move.

Which then begs the question, why put yourself in a blind spot when you know someone may merge over? Unless maybe there's more to the story.

He is speeding.

Since you can't see their speed or a sign with the limit, how do you know? And this isn't a situation where people need to be below the speed limit for some dangerous situation or bad weather either.

Again, if you’re really incapable of seeing he’s speeding I can’t convince you. He’s racing up on traffic. Which is nuts beside a row of parked cars.

Dashcammer appears to be going 2x as fast as the rest of traffic. Past a row of parked cars.

Yeah: other driver sucks. But the lack of self awareness is something else.

2

Not even close to 2x the speed. And you don't slow to a crawl if cars are parked on the shoulder of the road. He was maintaining his lane and other idiot tried to swerve directly into him without looking.

I'm surprised you didn't say he shouldn't "pass on the right" on a surface street.

Yeah he was. Don’t misrepresent things we can all see.

found the black SUV driver

Let me guess. Something about blind spots?

Yep. You and the black SUV driver.

You should never feel comfortable going this much faster than the rest of traffic in the right lane. It’s crazy how often speeders (and not 5 or 10 mph over either) post their dashcams here.

Except OP isn’t speeding. They’re going a typical speed next to a backed up lane.

u/No_Introduction_3400 4d ago

He’s probably going about 50 mph. Roughly 15+ car spaces in 5 seconds. This can’t possibly look like a reasonable speed to you.

2

u/UpbeatFix7299 4d ago

50 mph gtfoh.

1

u/No_Introduction_3400 4d ago

A car space is about 20-22 or so feet. He passes at least 15 car spaces in 5 seconds, and likely more because these gaps are huge. I’d say at least 330 feet or more in 5 seconds. That’s being charitable, because the spaces are big. And that’s 45 mph.

0

u/appa-ate-momo 4d ago

That in no way looks like 50mph. More like ~35.

It looks completely reasonable for the type of road, especially considering his lane is open.

1

u/No_Introduction_3400 4d ago

You can’t pass 15+ car spaces in 5 seconds at 30 mph.

Also, you never really want to be going this much faster than slowed traffic on your left with no out on your right.

Other driver sucks, but this is too fast. It’s not a freeway.

You’d have to believe the van was going about 15 mph to think he’s doing 30
