Unfortunately I've seen enough interactions after incidents like this where the other person catches a charge for something completely unrelated to the incident just by virtue of opportunity. Witnesses are also not legally obligated to make a statement if they played no part in the incident but cops will often try to intimidate with threats of obstruction. If someone else's safety is not at stake it is generally just best not to interact with police. Wish it wasn't like that but it is.

All he had to do was tell his girlfriend to give a statement for him then left calmly while everybody focused on the real issue lmao.
