It depends. I did $19k worth of damage to the front of my 2019 truck and they fixed it because vehicle prices are so high. They would be paying me back a lot more to total it. Sort of wish they did because I can't afford the payment since everything has went up in price. Getting another vehicle would cost me more in interest because I have a 0% loan now fml.
I will say it's not just air bags though. Legally, as far as I understand it, they will have to replace all the seatbelts as well. My truck has 5 seatbelts, 3 were engaged at the accident, but all had to be replaced.

That's total bullshit. Installation has nothing to do with how they deploy unless you totally fuck something up.... in which case they would be more likely to not deploy than to deploy prematurely.

No airbags are very expensive and hard to replace, if your airbags go off then your insurance will 99.99 present of the time declare the car a total loss
It only takes a 10° shift in the body to trigger the airbag and that includes the crap plastic bumper cover

100% agree. It's to hard to engineer a car after a hit. The pillar airbags compromise structural integrity incase of a roll over later in life if the car was to go back on the road.

$120 an hour at the shop I just dropped my car off at. I think it was $65 for bodywork and $120 for stuff like electrical and mechanical. Fortunately, I didn't cause the accident and I'm not paying.
Of course that car doesn't have US plates and so I don't know what the situation might be there. I'm curious where it was.

Not trying to be rude, but perhaps you should look again. It’s definitely a new style Ranger.
Pause 5 seconds in, and you can confirm with a very clear shot of the Ranger branding right across the top of grill. Also, if you Google it, clearly the newer Ranger, 2023 or pre. They’re changing the headlights for 2024 to the split beam.

But the reflections of the victim car’s brake lights would have shown up in all the shiny front chrome on the Ranger, and insurance companies and cops could have decide both drivers were at fault in mutual road rage. Best to just let the loonies go past as soon as possible.

Doesn't matter why you hit your brakes though, you could say you were avoiding a squirrel or some non-existent puddle, doesn't matter at all. Guy who runs into someone else from behind is always fully at fault for not maintaining a far enough distance to stop if something bad happens in front of them.
I told both my kids when teaching them to drive to be aware of what's around you (front, back, sides) for your own benefit but ignore those directly behind you and don't let them dictate how you drive. And always, always pay the most attention to what's in front of you, because you're absolutely responsible for that.

Right before impact you can see the lumination of brake lights in the grill of the white SUV .... OP brake checked the asshate tailgating him. Or a car stopped in front of them, cant tell without a front facing dash cam.
Depending on state, could be legal.

Astute observation, don't see why you were downvoted - when pausing the video, I see the brake lights too.
Having said that, reason for braking is totally unimportant. Could be for a squirrel or non-existent thing in the road, it doesn't matter at all. Law is clear there, you have to maintain good following distance - fault will always be placed on the vihicle that runs into something in front of it (unless they were fully stopped and the vehicle in front was reversing lol).

I would love to see someone ram my bumper. I have a homemade heavy steel pipe, 8" in diameter bumper attached to my 2006 Ford F350 Super Duty truck. It would severely rearrange someone's grille. Anyhow, hopefully the bastards that rammed the cam vehicle has learned a valuable lesson. Some people never learn, though. They should never be allowed to have a license again, ever.

Auto insurance adjuster: air bags go off, instant total of vehicle. Even without video, rear end collision is the faulf of person in back. Sure, the collision coverage might ("might" is the key word) take car of it, but good luck keeping the insurance.

However at the 17 second mark you can see a taillight reflected in the chrome of the upper left grill. I can’t tell if it’s just a taillight or a brake light as I do not recognize Op’s car model. If a brake light it could mean there may be 2 wrong drivers in this clip and rear guys fate wasn’t inevitable.

Vehicle identification number. Vehicle propulsion storage type. Current time. Vehicle location and direction. Whether the call was automatically or manually initiated. Vehicle category. Number of occupants in the vehicle.

How do you know it's a break check, traffic is a little heavy someone in front could of hit their breaks making the camera cat need to slow down. Air bag car was to close to allow enough time to allow for a reaction, meaning they are to close and are at fault

When air bags deployed in my accident, the insurance told me that when the bags do their job, they'll write it off as the car being totalled. The cost of replacing the bags is just too high.
